Nine (NBN)

Interesting that they’re changing things now…

NBN News meaning the NBN brand was always going to stay post July 1.

My guess is NBN As a news brand is staying at least for this year. They might want to switch branding to 9 News later and a low viewing time (over New Years) to reduce negative feedback (there will be some)

That Facebook page needs to change to NBN News - instead of NBN Television

And they need to launch localized NBN News Facebook pages for each of their 6 local regions. The same as WIN, 7 Local News, SC etc do

I thought that NBN is actually transitioning to Nine branding, but in a very slow/gradual way to try and avoid the “It’s a disgrace how Sydney is taking over our local NBN TV!” type complaints from parochial Novocastrians as much as possible.

NBN News? Personally, I think that NBN will change over to Nine News when it’s metropolitan equivalent finally has a branding change of it’s own…

…and localised NBN News Twitter accounts as well!

Why setup anything when you will need to inevitably have to change it? Just setup 9 News Local pages for each of the 6 regions on both Facebook and Twitter and be done with it.

No they don’t because they also post programming related things not just news.

The population of each area within Northern NSW isn’t large enough to warrant having local news Facebook pages.

I think you’re right but it will be a while before we see that. The people who whinge that the co-branding is too confusing will have to put up with it for a little while longer. To add to that though I seriously don’t know how the co-branding on NBN is any different to any other regional broadcaster in Australia.

I agree on both points. Is there really that much difference between the current dual branding of NBN compared to what say…Prime7 do? Personally, I don’t think so.

Also while I do quite like Nine’s current branding strategy for the network, I personally don’t think that many people will appreciate how good it is/was to have a local TV brand like NBN Television (one of the last truly local regional TV brands in Australia, no less) until it’s entirely phased out in favour of Nine’s network branding which will be pretty much the same as it is in Sydney, Brisbane and almost everywhere else. At least that’s the way I see things anyway…

Northern NSW isn’t large enough to warrant having local news Facebook pages.

I don’t think I agree. Prime7 does it for all its markets.
Likewise WIN and 7 local news. SC SC has a local Facebook page for 100,000
People.

Northern NSW is the 4th largest tv market in the country i. Terms of population - over 2 million - more than Perth. It can easily be broken up

Why split up your marketing strategy by splitting up the people who engage with you on social media. Broadcasters like Prime7 and WIN have a few more markets spread over multiple states, unlike NBN.

On My EPG NBN Just changes to NINE New England

NBN has a very messy strategy with Facebook.

90% of content posted to the NBN Facebook page is news. You’ll notice promos for shows get almost no engagement so that’s not what people go to the site for. They go for local news. They post 90% news content but is branded NBN TV. Also the news content is Newcastle centric.

They should rebrand to NBN News Newcastle, NBN News North Coast, NBN News New England etc with localized pages and news content specific for that area. Exactly the way their website does.

This is also the way 9 news, 9 news Sydney, 9 news Perth etc and all
The 7 stations do it.

There is then the Channel
9 Facebook page for entertainment and promos and marketing and engagement of programming

This would be a smart strategy. Right now they don’t really have a strategy - it’s confusing and messy and not effective.

But they just shitcanned the NBN brand by changing the LCNs. Why bother with keeping the news as NBN News?

So, is the NBN brand now also over? Two birds (or should I say brands) hit by one stone :stuck_out_tongue:

Makes sense to do it at the same time as affiliation change occurs with SCA. Makes it easier to sell advertising packages to clients as well to say “you’ll be advertising on Nine in x, y, and z” than to say “you’ll be advertising on Nine in x, and y, but NBN in z”

I Guess the test will be 6PM Tonight when NBN News next goes to air ???

NBN with a sneaky LCN change interesting

Just thinking, might they call the channel NINE, to reflect that it’s the same as NINE everywhere else, but call the news “NBN NEWS” to reflect the heritage and that new is still local to the NBN region.

It’s obvious the change to 100% nine Branding continues

promos, bugs, PRGs and IDs are all now nine

And now it seems the LCNs are nine too

I still
Expect it to be nbn news on the air and social channels for a bit longer. Dunno why - I think they will hold
Out changing that one a little bit longer as its by far the most significant (the local news)

When that changes to 9 News - there will
Be some backlash in the hunter area short term

The NBN brand died the day the acronym was co-opted for the National Broadband Network…
