Nine (NBN)

I’d assume it’s probably the next stage in NBN’s slow move to NINE only branding.

NBN has NEVER screened Nine’s morning news on a regular basis (ie. rare occasions only) going back to when aggregation began in 1992.

Even before home shopping appeared on Australian TV screens, NBN opted for programs like “The Sullivans” over morning news.

In recent years, I’m pretty sure NBN has only ever screened Nine’s Morning News on the Queens Birthday Public Holiday due to the Gold Telethon. I’m not sure if that was the case this year, but certainly in the past (2012-14ish?) from what I remember.

In any case, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see whether or not the timing of this programing move by NBN is merely a coincidence…

NBN could be planning to go to full Nine network branding on Friday in line with SCA taking Nine affiliation.

Would make for a consistent Nine brand across the entire east coast.

Just speculation of course…

Well it would be perfect timing. I think there will be a lot of midnight watchers on Thursday

Personally, I hope that happens!

That said, even though I’m a fan of Nine’s current branding I still think it’ll be a sad day when the very last elements of the NBN brand are phased out for good in favour of the network branding…

Would be nice…

Time to put an end to this mess of Nine, NBN and “network” on the one channel.

Is it too soon though?

This extremely slow and steady approach seems to be working.

even in 2040 the old farts will still call it channel 3.

Just freaking do it now.

Possibly for some people.
But when is the right time?

No matter when it happens, if it’s Friday, next month or 2 years from now, people are always going to be upset at the cessation of the local branding.

It’s been a slow process to get as much Nine branding into NBN as we see now, and I honestly think if they’re going to change to full Nine branding and remove all mentions of NBN, this Friday is probably the best opportunity we’ve seen so far.

I think the decision to go to full Nine branding will
Be made locally by NBN executive management - most likely the lady who manages NBN and QTQ

I think Nine will
Allow that decision to be made at a station level as NBN knows its audience best. And thus I Donny think the Nine brand rolling out in other areas will affect this decision just yet

[/quote]Not to mention that the local market will largely be unaware on changes in other areas, so to the average viewer it’s no more significant than any other date to make a change.

While I do agree with you here, from the perspective of Nine it would be a great day to changeover as it would allow for their brand to be consistently seen across the entire east coast, and ultimately they’re the ones who’ll be making the decision about changing the branding.

Nevertheless, whether they do actually change on Friday remains to be seen. They probably won’t, but you never know.

Donny Kick It?

Another thing I discovered about this

On both the EPG and NBN website, it is listed as “Nine’s Morning News”, not NBN News as the 5am, 3pm and 4pm relay of Nine’s bulletins are.

my Foxtel guide always lists it as “Nine’s Afternoon” “Nine News Now” etc.

Very interesting…

NBN Just changed there Facebook Page Profile to this, So does that mean the NBN News brand is to stay post July 1st ???

It’s to my understanding that NBN News has actually used Nine News-style titlecards (like the picture above) and transitional graphics in their bulletins and updates since April 11, not an entirely new thing…
