If Nine does introduce FAST channels from the BBC, it will be the biggest partnership between the BBC and an Australian commercial network. The BBC already supplies natural history documentaries (usually narrated by David Attenborough) to Nine, and classic shows to 9Gem.
Interesting as Seven has just renewed its deal with ITV.
Nine’s chief product and technology officer Rebecca Haagsma is leaving the company to join the AFL in February 2025.
Pedestrian Group announces relaunch of Pedestrian JOBS
Pedestrian Group has today announced the relaunch of Pedestrian JOBS, marking the biggest update to the platform in more than a decade.
Since launching in 2010, Pedestrian JOBS has connected tens of thousands of employers and job seekers, becoming the go-to jobs marketplace for creative industries.
The revamped platform marks a new era in Pedestrian Group’s history and has been designed with a modernised user experience, improved job-matching technology, and a design that speaks to its hungry young audience.
“I’m incredibly excited about the relaunch of Pedestrian JOBS,” said Mason Rook, CEO of Pedestrian Group. “Pedestrian Group’s vision is to help young Australians feel heard and understood and with the relaunch of JOBS, we’re now making it easier for them to find roles that align with their passions and creativity. This new platform reflects not just a technology upgrade but a deeper commitment to supporting the next generation, empowering them to thrive in careers they love.”
To celebrate the relaunch, PEDESTRIAN.TV has also launched a new Careers vertical, bringing its audience expert career advice, tips and tricks for navigating their first (or second, or third) jobs, and juicy interviews from industry veterans.
“We know that younger Aussies — a.k.a. Gen Z — are more likely to change jobs than their millennial or Gen X peers,” said Head of Editorial Alex Bruce-Smith. “Last year, 13% of people aged 15 to 24 years old switched jobs. That’s why we’re proud to also be launching Careers, a content vertical dedicated to helping young Aussies craft their dream career, whatever that may look like.”
Part of the content offering will include Insider Trading, an interview series asking young creative Aussies how they got to where they are, the lessons they learnt along the way, and all the nosy questions you’ve always wanted to know.

Stanton is expected to come up against Amanda Laing for the role of CEO at Nine’s annual general meeting this Thursday (November 7).
‘A history-making moment’: Freelance talks begin at Nine
MEAA freelance representatives sat down with Nine management on Monday to “directly negotiate rates, annual increases, and conditions.”
This marks the first direct conversations between management and freelancers regarding worker rights in the history of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, Brisbane Times, and WAtoday, according to the union.
On Monday, MEAA’s freelance representatives presented Nine management with “more than 300 signatures on an open letter calling on them to negotiate in good faith.”
The union is aiming to make Nine commit to a Freelance Charter of Rights, which includes dispute resolution, transparent rates of pay, 10% super, copyright protection, and the like.
Nine’s acting boss will cut another $50 million in costs from the business as part of a plan to “expedite the evolution” of the media company away from its traditional television business, arrest its languishing share price, and implement a cultural reset.
Matt Stanton told investors at Nine’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday he had initiated a review of the company’s business operations, a program named Nine2028, to streamline its running and squeeze more revenue from its digital output.
Interesting that 2028 will be when a number of Nine’s recently signed long-term expensive major sport contracts will have expired (or thereabouts), wonder if the new interim CEO has a different strategy and viewpoint on the company compared with Sneesby and Marks, particularly sports?
Always wondered if their outlay on the NRL, Olympics/Winter Olympics, Australian Open and Melbourne Cup (among others) might come back to bite them one day.
Catherine West was re-elected as NEC chair at the AGM this morning, with 82% of shareholders voting in favour.
I think Nine may keep most of its sporting rights deals like NRL, Olympics, Australian Open, and drop most (if not all) of its sponsorships of arts and events across Australia, in order to find the $50 million in savings. I am talking about events like Moomba, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Womadelaide, Brisbane Festival including Riverfire, etc.
I couldn’t see them dropping Riverfire, they get good ratings and lead-in off that.
If they did drop it, would 10 or something go after it?
Nine Entertainment’s chair, Catherine West, was confronted by multiple questions from shareholders about Nine’s toxic culture and its reliance on gambling revenue (at the company’s AGM yesterday).
The first question came from a reformed gambling addict: “Given that gambling causes significant harm in Australia, with the average Australian losing $1,600 per year, what action is the company taking to prevent gambling harm?”
That was followed up by a question from the gambling reform campaigner Tim Costello, who pointed out that Nine was not just accepting the status quo but was “actively lobbying with free-to-air networks to actually defeat the recommended total gambling ad ban”.
West’s rationale was that if there were to be any restrictions on TV gambling they needed to apply equally to all the social media platforms. “We don’t think it will be a good outcome for gambling to be banned in our ecosystem but be freely available in other ecosystems, including on Google word searches,” she said.
EDIT: Mumbrella adds that Nine’s executives copped a 37.4% vote against the executive remuneration report.
Odd call to have 9GO behind the podium…
Only if it’s provided produced I’d say.
Nine Melbourne’s managing director Matt James will be moving into a senior strategy role across the wider Nine Group, as part of their Transformation Team.
Andrea Salmon, who oversees Perth & Adelaide teams will take on an expanded role as Director of Sales and Managing Director of Nine Melbourne and will continue to report to Michael Stephenson.
Moving forward in Melbourne, Radio will continue to report to Tom Malone, Publishing to Tory Maguire, Television to Michael Healy, and Sales to Michael Stephenson.
