4th Ashes Test

The Fourth Ashes Test commences this Wednesday September 4th at 7.30pm AEST , LIVE, EXCLUSIVELY and in HD on Nine and 9GEM and streamed live on 9Now .

Following a miracle win in the third Test in Headingley, England has finally found the momentum it needed, having not won an Ashes Test since 2015. It was Ben Stokes who once again played hero, replicating his brilliant World Cup Final form as he defied the odds and record books, to hold on for one of the most memorable finishes to a cricket match in history.

The historic Old Trafford Cricket Ground serves as the battleground for the fourth Test, with the confirmation that Aussie superstar Steve Smith will return to the side following a concussion suffered at the hands of a Jofra Archer bouncer. All eyes will be on him to see if he can reclaim the incredible form he exhibited in the first three Tests.

Australian selectors surprised many by dropping Usman Khawaja , opting to stick with the hardy Marnus Labuschagne in the 12-man squad, while the fast bowling rotation continues as Mitchell Starc comes back in to replace James Pattinson. They remain only one win away from once again securing The Ashes for the first time in England since 2001.

England meanwhile have shifted their much-maligned batting lineup, with streaky batsman Jason Roy expected to shift to the no.4 position, while journeyman Joe Denly has slotted into the opening spot alongside Rory Burns . The newly-confident home side has not minced words this past week, with English linchpin Stuart Broad warning Smith they will not hold back upon his return.

Ian Healy is apparently in England, so what is going on there will there be some commentary changes for the test, maybe Mark Taylor and Ian Healy will host from England and then The studio will be Todd Woodbridge Lisa Stalehekar and Ian Chapell or possibly even hosting from England

Mark Taylor is back in Australia so he’ll be on the panel in studio with Todd Woodbridge for the remaining two tests.

Did Mark colour his hair a bit? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I’ve noticed that too lol

Probably to cover up all the grey hairs gained during the 3rd Test when Australia lost the almost unlosable (after getting the Poms out for 67 in the first dig).

Nine are showing the end of last Test during this rain delay. People on social media aren’t happy.

well I am not surprised given the fact Australia lost and it is channel nine’s last ashes broadcast for 4 possibly more years breaking the tradition of classic highlights.

The coverage is coming out of Melbourne yes?

Yes. Ian Healy was interviewed on Today a couple of tests ago and he was in the Melbourne studio.

Nine seem to now have a similar set up to Seven with its sports broadcasting. Over night sports broadcasting coming out of Melbourne these days.

Nice to see Sky have Warne and Ponting together commentating.

That would never happen here.

Nine would have got twice the ratings if they broadcasted the whole game in ground or got some ball by ball video feed from Channel 5 or something, I know Channel 5 do highlights but they surely would film ball by ball coverage and it could be used for something, don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed Ricky Ponting, Michael Holding, Michael Atherton and Shane Warne isn’t awful either but I am sick of listening to Isa Guha, Nasser Hussain and Ian Botham. I think Channel 9 should find a way to pick up Channel 5 so that we can listen to good quality coverage Mark Nicholas, Michael Vaughan, Geoffrey Boycott, Alison Mitchell To back good quality studio feed which I think Mel Jones should be replaced my someone like Michael Vaughan or Geoffrey Boycott. Channel 5 would have too make ball by ball filming and use it for 9’s Coverage and if they do why are Channel 9 mucking around with Sky Sports, if Channel 5 just get camera footage remove commentary and change titles and add commentary after the game then Channel 9 should have brought ball by ball coverage into England, this is like their last chance to prove themselves on a non-ICC Event and they wasted by having a tennis host, Sky feed and Mel Jones.

Good point you made the two from the rival channels 7 and Fox not too much of them together, I kinda forgot how it turned out but one thing for sure, it will be interesting commentators from network rivals will get on, was there anything from social media about it (especially from Aussies).

Absolute and utter rubbish. Do you really think the cricket watchers of Australia would have DOUBLED if they had a different feed?
C5 still uses Sky feed by and large (I think they have one camera at the ground, maybe 2). Their focus is producing the edited feed not a day long broadcast.

The Channel 9 could do in-ground Coverage as I said, and the other option They could take commentary of Channel 5 and use Sky feed as the graphics and what not but just use commentary of 5 and grab a mid over analysis or something from Sky when 5’s Coverage isn’t operating such as Drinks Break, Channel 9 could just use their studio, Channel 9 could also make their own graphics if Channel 5’s are posted added as you said and just take the commentary of 5 which sounds “very Channel 9” with Michael Clarke (I don’t like Clarke but it is what the network contracted for the home summers), Michael Vaughan (he is on for like England Australia game on 9), Mark Nicholas (former host of Channel 9), Geoffrey Boycott (commentated during the 1990’s for Channel 9), which makes it 4 to 2 with Sky having Shane Warne and Michael Holding .

That is one long sentence you’ve made for something that won’t happen.
