Nine Cricket Coverage

It’s actually not digitally done by Sky.

On the oval there are two logos, imposed on each other at each end of the. They are specialised mats that are used, cut into a “V” shape.

This allows each end to change, when on the side you can see them blurred. Super cool tech but has nothing to do with digital or computer generated pictures.

I have never seen this technology before. I think Cricket Australia may adapt it for the test series against Pakistan and NZ this summer.

Can you explain this in simple terms?

This screencap (showing Jos Buttler walking back to the pavilion after he was bowled by Pat Cummins after lunch yesterday) should explain it.

I’ll be honest, I had nfi what you guys were talking about. But that’s genius! Reminds me of those pictures that change as you move past them.

:joy:. That’s actually 100% correct, just done on a mega scale and not on a card. Lol

Next week’s coverage of the second Ashes test from Lord’s (August 14-18) is all over the place. Day 1 and day 5 will be on 9Gem in all states. For the middle three days the cricket will be on 9Gem in Sydney and Brisbane (plus the first 90 minutes of morning session in Perth), and main channel in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

A good chunk of yesterday’s Kennedy Molloy Drive show on Triple M was devoted to Mick Molloy’s inability to receive 9Gem at his home. Apparently that channel is unavailable to some Foxtel satellite customers or isn’t available on some of the older IQ boxes. Nine was heavily criticised for not putting the cricket on the main channel and not having the best person for the job in the host seat. Nine’s program director, Hamish Turner, ended up calling in to the show and offering some advice. Mick is a bit of a luddite and can’t be bothered to access the channels of Nine via the 9Now app.

I know of several households who are in the same boat and only access television via their Foxtel box so if certain FTA channels aren’t on it they don’t miss them until something like this happens.

True. Those without 9Gem could’ve/should’ve planned ahead and known about the situation. Also Todd Woodbridge did a fine job hosting, many thought this online, especially after a couple of days (initial reaction was just '‘surprised’.

So the TV or the house doesn’t have a normal aerial? I find this hard to believe.

Again it’s all about, oh no the poor soles with Foxtel! What utter rubbish, correct to NineNow, or have a normal connection and bingo you have cricket, and noted in metro areas where gemhd is available.

Reminds me of the tweet that Phil Gould made in 2013 when he couldn’t watch the Rugby League World Cup on 7mate.

You’d think media personalities would have these top notch TV viewing set-ups, but obviously that doesn’t seem to be the case!

One can only make guesses about the sort of TV set-up that Mick Molloy has (although the comments he apparently made on Triple M suggests that Mick has likely got an older generation Foxtel satellite box), although you’d probably be surprised to know just how many people are reliant on Foxtel’s retransmissions of FTA services in the three main East Coast markets.

Perhaps Nine should consider doing a similar move to the one Seven did in July 2016 (when they replaced their Foxtel satellite retransmissions of 7TWO with 7mate) by replacing 9Go! with 9Gem on Foxtel satellite.

You don’t know many Foxtel subscribers then.

I believe 9Go! is available but not 9Gem - would’ve thought they’d switch it around for cases like this

Luckily free-to-air TVSN is also on Foxtel so they don’t miss out.

I’ve seen a few complaints on Twitter that the Ashes cricket isn’t on Foxtel and Kayo as if it should automatically be there.

To be fair, there’s probably some confusion considering Foxtel/Kayo have the rights to all other international matches played in England

I do, and guess what, they have the normal aerial connected.

The one that didn’t, watched it via their smart tv via the NineNow app

Is the HD version of 9Gem available via the Foxtel IQ now? Last time I checked it wasn’t.

Same when I last checked I couldn’t get it in
Perth , unless you have a TV Aerial and then you watch in Channel 95, but I think Foxtel are competing with Channel 9 and are unlikely to do it due to the fact that it is temporary for the Ashes. You can still record and stream 9Gem through the Foxtel box on channel 192, but no Gem HD to my understanding (still worth checking though) good point you made there. Anyway hopefully the coverage of the 2nd Test is a bit more advanced, I.e Having more experts

I haven’t watched much of the cricket but Todd Woodbridge can’t host tennis, can’t imagine how he is with cricket

The 2nd Ashes Test begins in Lord’s tonight, Wednesday August 14th at 7.30pm AEST until Sunday August 18th , LIVE, EXCLUSIVELY and in HD on 9GEM and streamed live on 9Now .

Following an exciting, back-and-forth contest which saw Australia securing their first win at ‘The Fortress’ of Edgbaston in 18 years, the battle now heads to the hallowed turf of Lord’s.

England and captain Joe Root will head into the 2nd Test with confidence and a renewed game plan to even the ledger, despite it historically being a ground that the Aussies have always found a lot of success at.

For Australia, James Pattinson is being rested as Josh Hazlewood joins the pace attack.

Hosting Nine’s coverage will be Australian sporting legend Todd Woodbridge , alongside former Australian men’s captain Mark Taylor, former Australian women’s star Mel Jones, Aussie wicket-keeping great Ian Healy and former women’s captain Lisa Sthalekar .

Commentary will be provided by a collection of heavyweights of world cricket, such as Aussie and English stars Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting , Michael Atherton, David Lloyd, Isa Guha and more.

The 2nd Test match begins at 7:30pm AEST tonight on 9GEM and 9Now ( time and channel throughout the series varies by state – see below and check guides for details).
