Rock, Paper, Scissors, The First Series To Be Greenlit From Original 2019 Program Makes Worldwide Short Debut At Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program 2.0 is opening its search for new and diverse creators from across the globe, focusing on new voices and nurturing their vision for original comedy-driven content with an eye toward representation. Today’s announcement was made by Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation.
Originally launched in 2019, Rock, Paper, Scissors marks the first finalised short to be greenlit for series from the inaugural program. In the short, the iconic trio of Rock, Paper, and Scissors lovingly compete with one another in this buddy comedy about the joy and messiness of friendship. Six additional projects from 2019 are currently in production at Nickelodeon, with additional information available soon.
Nickelodeon will debut Rock, Paper, Scissors during a special Nickelodeon Animation presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday, 16 June.
“We knew we were onto something special with creators Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman and their hilarious characters in Rock, Paper, Scissors , which we are so proud to bring to series,” said Naito.
“Finding and growing talent through the process of pitch to hit is what powers our Intergalactic Shorts Program, and we can’t wait to get started finding the next great creator in animation through our program’s just-launched second phase.”
The original Rock, Paper, Scissors short and series are created, written, and executive produced by Kyle Stegina ( Robot Chicken ) and Josh Lehrman ( Robot Chicken ), with Conrad Vernon ( Sausage Party ) and Bob Boyle ( The Fairly OddParents ) serving as executive producers on the series.
Through the 2022 Program, Nickelodeon will accept ideas from a global pool of storytellers and creative visionaries including artists, writers, and directors. Shorts will run on Nickelodeon’s platforms and are in the process of being developed into long-form animated series.
Shorts should feature one-of-a-kind, character-driven comedy and surprising storytelling, combining humour with action-adventure, mystery, sci-fi, and more. In line with Nickelodeon’s mission to make the best, original humour-driven content for kids, these creator-driven shorts offer content that is appealing to all members of the family, featuring a co-viewing lens of preschool (K 2-5) and big kids (K 6-11).
Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program launched in June 2019 and was overseen by Kari Kim, Vice President, Animation Development, Nickelodeon Animation, with Conrad Vernon serving as the program’s executive producer and Paul Watling ( Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ) as co-executive producer. The quest is yet to come in Nickelodeon’s all-new live-action puppet comedy series, The Barbarian and the Troll.
The series, which will premiere on Monday, 18 July at 11.45am on Nickelodeon, follows Evan, a bridge troll in search of adventure and Brendar, a fierce female warrior on a quest to defeat the evil demon who has imprisoned her brother.
In the series premiere, Evan the troll decides to burn his bridge and venture out into the world of Gothmoria for the first time to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a singer. He soon meets Brendar, who had been expelled from the Royal Order of Warrior Princesses and is now known as a “feared and revered” barbarian. After Evan convinces Brendar to bring him on her quest to vanquish the evil demon, they cross treacherous terrain to confront bizarre and magical creatures and encounter an eclectic puppet cast of wacky characters.
The series stars Spencer Grammer (Rick & Morty) as the voice of Brendar, Gothmoria’s most feared and revered warrior; and Drew Massey (Mutt & Stuff, Sid the Science Kid) as Evan, a bridge troll with a dream of becoming a singer. Nickelodeon is bringing magic to life with That Girl Lay Lay, an all-new buddy comedy series premiering Monday, 27 February at 5.05pm on Nickelodeon and streaming on Paramount+ from Wednesday, 1 March.
That Girl Lay Lay follows Lay Lay (Alaya “That Girl Lay Lay” High), an avatar from a phone app, and her best friend Sadie (Gabrielle Navaeh Green), a girl who is struggling to make her mark in school and in need of a best friend to talk to. After Sadie wishes upon a star that her hype-girl avatar Lay Lay was real, she magically comes to life, and the two friends learn that when they are together, they can accomplish anything. That Girl Lay Lay also stars Peyton Perrine III as Sadie’s brother, Marky; Tiffany Daniels as Sadie’s mum, Trish; Thomas Hobson as Sadie’s dad, Bryce; and Caleb Brown as Lay Lay and Sadie’s classmate, Jeremy.
That Girl Lay Lay is produced by Will Packer Media (Bigger), with Will Packer (Little, Ride Along) and Carolyn Newman serving as executive producers and Toy Monique Hawkins and Peggy Cheng overseeing. The series is created and executive produced by David A. Arnold (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Bigger), who also serves as showrunner. John Beck & Ron Hart (Side Hustle, Fuller House, Liv and Maddie) serve as executive producers. Production of That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon is overseen by Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action, with Jessica Brown serving as Nickelodeon’s Executive in Charge of Production for the series.

Diamond-selling and Grammy® nominated singer and songwriter Bebe Rexha has been tapped as the headline performer for Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023 , which will premiere in Australia on Wednesday, 8 March at 5.30pm on Nickelodeon.
Broadcast for the first time ever from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Rexha will hit the KCA stage for an epic performance of her chart-topping hit single, I’m Good (Blue).
Celebrating stars across the worlds of film, television, music, sports and more, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023 will feature appearances from today’s most popular stars including: Awkwafina, Lil Baby, Halle Bailey, Pete Davidson, Melissa McCarthy, MrBeast, Chris Pine, Anthony Ramos, Michelle Rodriguez, Seth Rogen and more.
The star-studded awards show will also feature appearances by Nickelodeon talent. That Girl Lay Lay (That Girl Lay Lay) will present an Orange Blimp to a fan-favourite, and Young Dylan (Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan) will perform his brand-new single, I Just Wanna, produced by Jermaine Dupri and streaming globally alongside the music video on Friday, March 3.

Comedy superstar Adam Sandler will receive the first-ever King of Comedy Award during the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and screening in Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday, 8 March at 5.30pm on Nickelodeon.
Recognised for his prolific career in comedy as an actor, writer, producer, comedian and musician over the past 30 years, Sandler will accept his Silver Blimp from a giant, opulent throne on the KCA stage, before getting decimated in Nickelodeon’s iconic Slime.
Adam Sandler said: “I’ve had so many great times at this fantastic awards extravaganza, and I’ll always be excited to hang with da kiddies!! Love to all!!!”
Hosted by Nate Burleson and Charli D’Amelio, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2023 will continue to put the fans in control as they enter a magical surreal world and feature extreme logic-defying stunts; wild celebrity collaborations and games; illusions and tricks; and epic slimings.
Sandler is no stranger to Nickelodeon, having won 10 coveted Kids’ Choice Awards orange blimps over the years, for both his voiceover work in animated movies and acting roles in comedies. He has also won eight People’s Choice Awards, five MTV Movie Awards and a Gotham Award for his work as Stanley Sugerman in Netflix’s Hustle. His role as Howard Ratner in the Safdie Bros.’ critically acclaimed film Uncut Gems, garnered Sandler several nominations and awards including winning the National Board of Review, and the Independent Spirit Award.

I don’t understand why Nickelodeon chooses to show the Kids Choice Awards three days after the US. By the time KCA goes to air here, most viewers will have found out the winners on social media or online.
KCA will be held on Saturday, March 4, which is March 5 in Australia. So there is the option of showing the awards live.
Nickelodeon Is Plating Up The Tiny Chef Show - Featuring Stellar Celebrity Guest Line-Up.

Nickelodeon is whipping up epic culinary adventures in the brand-new series The Tiny Chef Show , which will premiere on Monday, 20 March at 5.35pm on Nick Jr. Produced in association with Imagine Kids+Family and Nickelodeon Animation, follows the titular social media sensation and herbivore as he introduces and cooks new recipes for the world’s tiniest plant-based dishes from his tree-stump home.
The series welcomes a variety of celebrity guests including Kristen Bell, Sky & Ocean Brown, Tabitha Brown, Josh Dela Cruz, Josh Gad, Liza Koshy, RZA, That Girl Lay Lay and Keith L. Williams - to talk food, friendship and more. Each episode will feature RuPaul as the voice announcer and showcase different ingredients, foods and dishes by Chef with the help from his friends: Olly, a practical and excitable robot who works closely with Chef assisting in the preparation of each episode’s dish; Ruby, Chef’s beloved caterpillar pet, friend and confidant with a boundless appetite; Henry, a loyal and loving snail who moves slowly around the stump and reveals Chef’s Dish of the Day; and Stump Band, the show’s very own house band consisting of a fork, spatula and spoon.
In the season premiere, Tiny Chef makes pancakes but loses his confidence when he breaks his special lucky pancake flipping spatula, but with some help from his friends Chef whips up something new for a campout and overcomes his fear of the dark.

Over in the UK, it was scheduled to air it 6 days after its US airing (March 10), but in a last minute schedule change, it’s now pushed to March 6th.
