This August marks the 20th Anniversary of Nickelodeon’s beloved Latina heroine, Dora the Explorer!
When a little girl named Dora Marquez wandered onto television screens on 14 August, 2000, few could have predicted the long lasting global influence she would have.
Debuting at number one in the US, Dora the Explorer featured the first animated Latina character in a leading role, as well as a whole cast of characters including a monkey named Boots, a fox called Swiper and others who would soon become cemented in children’s minds and hearts.
For those who grew up with her, Dora was a best friend who helped them explore a world of adventure and fantasy, while learning a new language and gaining the skills to overcome any obstacle.

11-Year-Old Rapper Lands His Own Nickelodeon TV Series Created By Tyler Perry.
Kid rapper and pint-sized powerhouse Dylan Gilmer is set to star in his very own live-action series, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan , premiering Monday, 31 August, at 5:30pm on Nickelodeon (Foxtel #701 and Fetch #252).
Executive produced, directed and written by Tyler Perry, the series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan (Dylan Gilmer), an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced.
Dylan’s grandmother Viola (Aloma Wright) realises that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman) and their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter).
Suddenly, the Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins.
From Dylan giving Rebecca and Charlie lessons in “swag” and street smarts, to learning that even rappers have rules in the Wilson house, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan follows the hilarious hijinks this family faces as they try to get on the same beat.
Star of the series, 11-year-old Dylan Gilmer, was handpicked by Perry himself after he saw the young rapper’s performance on Nickelodeon’s new series All That , which Gilmer’s friend and avid supporter, Ellen DeGeneres, helped him secure, following countless performances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show .

Ollie, his two best friends, and an otherworldly backpack, embark on monstrous adventures in Nickelodeon’s new original action-comedy series, Ollie’s Pack , premiering on Monday, September 21, at 4pm (AEST).
Ollie is faced with the struggles of tween life and the responsibility of controlling an entire dimension of monsters, when he discovers his backpack is a powerful portal to Monsterverse.
Together with Cleo and Bernie, the three friends must protect the earth from the horrifying monsters that have escaped, while calling on the more helpful monsters to help them with their everyday kid problems, including sneaking into movies and winning their school’s Battle of the Bands contest.
In the first episode, “ The Chosen One…Stinks ,” Ollie’s stinky sweat is a hot commodity in the Monsterverse so he exchanges it with a monster who offers to do his laundry.
Then in “ Not Another Superhero Movie ,” Ollie and his friends utilise a monster’s powers to make an epic superhero movie for their film club.
The series stars James Hartnett ( Cupcake & Dino ) as Ollie, an ordinary, impulsive, and creative kid who has been given the status of ‘Chosen One’ and ‘Keeper of the Pack’, Ana Sani ( Mysticons ) as Cleo, the brave and adventurous comic relief, and David Berni ( Rocket Monkeys ) as Bernie, the nervy and logical voice of reason.

With brand-new rugged Dino Rescue gear, heavy-duty vehicles and tools, the pups are ready for action-packed prehistoric rescue missions in a lost world full of dinosaurs.
The premiere episode, Dino Rescue: Pups and the Lost Dino Eggs , sets the scene for what will become an exciting new series of missions for PAW Patrol. It all begins at the beach where the PAW Patrol pups are having fun before Ryder rallies them to the Lookout to meet a new PAW Patrol member, Rex. Rex speeds in, in his wheelchair to greet the pups and invites them to his home, Dino Wilds.

Nickelodeon Teams Up With Michael Phelps To Make Waves This Summer With New PAW Patrol Safety First! Water Safety Campaign.
PAW Patrol’s heroic pups are on a roll this summer and ready to spread the word about the importance of water safety through the PAW Patrol Safety First! prosocial initiative.
The water safety program, created in partnership with Michael Phelps, will launch today with a Public Service Announcement (PSA). Starring Phelps, World Champion Swimmer and Water Safety Advocate, who also serves as the PAW Patrol Safety First! Global Water Safety Ambassador, the spot will be featured on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels, as well as their social media and digital platforms.
The PSA, which features the PAW Patrol pups as well as Phelps and his son Boomer, utilises a sing-along format to teach the “ABCs and 123s of Swim Safety”, the core principles that will help kids keep safe as they try to beat the heat this summer with water-based activities.
The ABCs for adults include: A – Adult Supervision – always be within arms distance of kids, providing focused supervision; B – Barriers – all pools should have a barrier for entry and a self-latching gate; and C – Classes that concentrate on swimming for kids and CPR for adults. The ABCs are an important way to make sure everyone feels safe and confident in the water.
The 123s of Swim Safety for kids include: 1 – Never swim alone - ask a grownup if you want to jump in; 2 – Know your surroundings - look around and know which is the shallow and deep end; and 3 – Take swimming classes - learn basic swimming skills like floating and strokes before getting in the pool.
In addition to the PSA, Nickelodeon has partnered with the Michael Phelps Foundation to develop an interactive PAW Patrol Swim Safety toolkit, currently available at nickjr.com.au/watersafety
The toolkit includes printable activities that caregivers and kids can complete together, to teach and reinforce the importance of water safety, such as: The Swim Safety Maze Challenge; Zuma’s Swim Safety Count and Colour activity, which teaches kids the importance of blowing bubbles; and a water safety demo in the form of a game of ‘Show-see-do.”
“Water Safety has been a priority in my family since I was a child as my mum was adamant that my sisters and I learn to swim for safety purposes. The statistics around accidental drowning are alarming and we want to help educate and encourage families with a few basic tips in a fun and informative way, thanks to Nickelodeon and the PAW Patrol pups,” said Phelps.

From the creators of Dora the Explorer comes a brand-new animated preschool series Santiago of the Seas , premiering Monday, 15 February at 8.30am AEDT on Nick Jr.
Infused with a Spanish-language and Latino-Caribbean culture curriculum, the action-adventure series follows eight-year-old Santiago “Santi” Montes, a brave and kind-hearted pirate, as he embarks on daring rescues, searches for treasures and keeps the high seas safe in a fantastical Caribbean world.
In the series, Santiago’s (Kevin Chacon) steadfast and loyal crew consists of Tomás (Justice Quiroz), his clumsy energetic cousin whose magical guitar can be used to harness the wind, and Lorelai (Alyssa Cheatham), a knowledgeable mermaid who can speak to sea creatures and transform into a young human girl.
Together, Santi and his best mates sail the seas on the majestic ship El Bravo, using their smarts, pirate skills and moral compasses to guard their home of Isla Encanto from villains like the nefarious pirate Bonnie Bones (Kyndra Sanchez) and her Palm Crow sidekick Sir Butterscotch (John Leguizamo).
In the Santiago of the Seas series premiere, “The Legend of Capitán Calavera,” Santiago and his friends become the new pirate protectors of Isla Encanto after discovering the lost treasure of the legendary Capitán Calavera.
Santiago of the Seas is created by Dora the Explorer alumni, Niki López, Leslie Valdes and Valerie Walsh Valdes. The series teaches kids the value of teamwork, honesty and kindness, while also encouraging them to learn Spanish phrases and fun facts about marine biology.
Kenan Thompson To Host Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021.

Actor, comedian and Saturday Night Live legend Kenan Thompson will take kids on a wild and slimy ride as host of Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021 , when the award show premieres on Monday, March 15, at 6pm (AEDT).
With Thompson at the helm, kids and families everywhere will literally be part of this year’s show like never before, celebrating fan-favourite stars across the worlds of film, television, music, sports and more.
For the first time ever, Nickelodeon’s Orange Blimp will leave the KCA venue and take fans on a wild ride around the world and beyond. Filled with slime and messy stunts, viewers will travel to outer space, Bikini Bottom and right into celebrities’ homes using XR technology. This year’s show will also feature live and interactive fan walls that bring celebrities and families at home to the main stage; second screen live voting all night long where fans stay in control; and a KCA award presented by one lucky family chosen during the show.

He was also nominated in that same category in 1998 alongside his longtime collaborator Kel Mitchell, who both serve as executive producers for the current iteration of All That which premiered in 2019.

Nickelodeon International And Network 10 Announce First Partnership To Create Brand-New Live Action Series.
Nickelodeon International and Network 10, today announced their first-ever partnership with the greenlight of Taylor’s Island (working title).
Produced by Fremantle, with major production investment from Screen Australia, the new original live-action series will premiere across Nickelodeon channels around the world, beginning early 2022. As part of the agreement, Nordic Entertainment Group is also a partner, premiering Taylor’s Island as an exclusive Viaplay Original on their Viaplay streaming service in the Nordic and Baltic markets.
The 20 x 22-minute action-packed comedy filmed in Queensland follows Taylor Young, a girl who is fascinated by the phenomena surrounding a mysterious island, ever since her uncle’s disappearance there.
With a gang of friends, including Nori, a wisecracking local rebel; Meesha, a tough-as-nails thrill seeker; Ellis, a hypochondriac and born worrier; and Taylor’s stepsister Lila, an aspiring vlogger, Taylor is determined to get to the bottom of the secrets and inexplicable events of the island. In the pursuit of the truth, the friends go on an adventure of a lifetime, facing endless beaches, hidden treasures, cryptic riddles, and thrilling legends waiting to be unraveled.
