So sad. Gotta feel for Dave Gooselink - he’s a TV3 institution down south.
Indeed. Gutted for Dave. He’s a good bastard. Infact he used to post on MediaSpy way back when…
AT&T is said to be offloading WarnerMedia (includes CNN among others) to Discovery. Wouldn’t be surprised if these cuts had to do with that or if more were on the way.
“The deal combines the content libraries of well-known news and entertainment brands like CNN, HBO and Warner Brothers with Discovery’s extensive portfolio of nature, cooking, reality and lifestyle shows.”
So, Newshub rebrands as CNN, after the merger is complete?
Discovery CEO David Zazlav on Monday committed to the future of CNN once his company completes a merger with AT&T’s WarnerMedia.
“Not only are we going to keep it,” Zaslav said in a Monday press conference with AT&T CEO John Stankey, but the new company will “lean into news.” He noted that his company already has a substantial news presence in Europe, which will be combined with CNN to create “a world leader in news.”
I highly doubt the staffing changes to Newshub has anything to do with deals in the U.S., and has more to do with miserly accountants somewhat closer to home.
I also doubt they’ll rebadge the FTA news service as CNN here, should the merger go ahead… but feel free to speculate, that’s Media Spy’s specialty, after all!
I think they might rebrand CNN as Newshub as they were talking on the AM Show this morning about Newshub coming an international news source
I’ve heard some ridiculous suggestions on this forum in the past but ditching a 40 year old internationally recognised brand like CNN for the five year old, currently New Zealand-only Newshub takes the cake!
If you don’t believe me here is the clip where they said ’ Newshub will play a big role"
Yeah but any major role still doesn’t mean that a globally recognised brand in CNN would be dumped for a fairly generic local brand in New Zealand.
What I think is that it means that CNN will play a bigger role in supplying news content to Newshub, kinda like what ITV and Seven already do, but on a bigger scale.
Maybe this could mean we can finally get our own rolling news network. And before you say that New Zealand doesn’t make enough news to supply something like that, they could just use the remaining time to air CNN Films documentaries or other WarnerMedia shows.
But then it wouldn’t be much of a rolling news network. If TVNZ couldn’t make it work, I don’t see how an American commercial player would be able to.
And no doubt vice-versa if there’s a breaking story of global interest in New Zealand, as relatively few and far between as those are.
(18/5/2021) The Project is marking their 1,000th episode tonight, Rove McManus joining the panel just like he did on the first show.
Episode 1, 2017:
I like the background of the project ep1 much better
It felt like I was sitting in an aquarium whereas the current one feels a bit more like a nightscape
True. But its too dark still
I somehow think this website/company didn’t design this desk.
