I think most people watching (in NZ) would have got the reference.
It hadn’t registered with me, but now that you mention it!
Kinda wondering why Paul’s using circular note cards… seem’s kinda wasteful. I hope the corners have been repurposed… maybe they can be used in N95 masks, who knows?
Have to admit that “Rebuilding Paradice” has one of the worst graphics package on NZ TV! Obviously Three was in a rush with getting the show going because no thought has really been put into making it appealing to the audience. Sorry Three!
Much better show tonight I reckon!
Review of Paul Henry’s new show
With Mediaworks cutting back, the future is Paul Henry-esk broadcasters with the talent to pull off an entire show because it is 100 times cheaper than a hot mess like The Project.
Henry has shrewdly understood the market before anyone else has, expect this show to build and become a future format of MediaWorks as we move from expensive news production to cheaper in studio talent.
The struggle for Broadcasters will be finding talent who have the ability to carry a show for 30minutes so as to avoid making Spinoff TV.
I’m enjoying the show and I would love to see this format replace The Project. But he’s right, there aren’t many Paul Henry’s at tv3 …
Couldn’t help but notice Melissa and Tom last night were at the desk last night… apart but certainly not 2 metres😂
Since the move to level 3 both hosts have been at the desk but are apart by 1m per mediaworks health and safety guidelines as well as health.govt.nz
I can feel the cocaine
Has there been a change of directive at Newshub since Hal Crawford left? I’ve noticed a change in the past three weeks in particular, on how certain stories are being presented. Not liking it.
Any inside word? A yes/no will suffice.
They had a consultant in last year around bulletin content and presentation Apparently but haven’t heard anything further
Could you elaborate a little bit more TV4? Curious to know your thoughts as I’m not a regular Newshub viewer.
Sarah Bristow is now the Head of News.
Awful
I was purposefully vague, just wanting to know if anything had changed from the management end.
I’ve found a more t-word like approach from some of the journos of late, especially around anything that comes from the Covid daily updates. I’ve been watching these press conferences since they began, and going by the stories being forwarded in the 6pm bulletin, I wonder sometimes if I’ve been watching a different press conference.
Oh, the T-word is Tabloid
I actually grew angry watching these stories, not because of the story themselves, but the way they’re being put across. A few cases; In the instance of Tova’s report last night, she’s acting more like the Opposition, than a reporter. I don’t mind some passion about things, but I felt last night her response to funeral limits was over the top. Michael Morah’s story on Aged-cared residents staying on Hospital Grounds not being counted as Hospital Admission’s was address 2-3 weeks ago, and explained then, (these residents haven’t been admitted to hospital, they’re not being treated as hospital patients, they are simply based on hospital grounds because of restrictions for some rest-homes where Covid lurks). Jenna Lynch has been following Tova’s style of late too, but I can’t think of any examples from last night’s bulletin.
I dunno, maybe crack the replay of it up online and watch the first 10-15 minutes and see what you think?
They were all in the top of the bulletin, so I just went to do the dishes, but if it continues, I’ll probably just turn the TV off, quite frankly.
That might explain why Sport’s presented from the “Story” side of the studio now, and why the red accent lights during weather stay red (used to turn a buttery yellow).
They seemed to have changed from about then, rather than being Covid-related changes.
First time watching The AM Show in a while and have reminded myself why I watch Breakfast!
Ingrid Hipkiss/Eric Young duo with Nicky Stytis on News. That would be the only way of getting my eyes on that network again.
Thanks for that TV4. I did wonder if their Covid-19 coverage was the reason. I haven’t been a fan of their coverage either and or the conduct of their reporting team. Definitely question things that are happening during this time but their team likes to present it in a sensationalist way and as if they uncovered watergate.
I am sure we have Sarah Bristow to thank for Paul Henry’s return to the airwaves as she is a longtime ally since TVNZ and followed him to Network Ten and then Mediaworks. It is his last week on air however.
For now… Newsroom article- Paul Henry: No return to paradise
Has the break changed his perspective and would he take 7pm now if MediaWorks decided to replace its high cost and moderately performing Australian format show, The Project?
“I would consider it. That is not out of the question. The ability to affect the way people think – the power that comes with that is alluring.” Indeed.
Paul Henry doesn’t come cheap but then neither does The Project and its 4 hosts. 3 years and it has never really made a dent in Seven Sharp’s ratings.
They would be stupid to not give PH 7pm if he’s up for it.
I can think of two T-words here in this thread that are both absolutely awful, also a D and an M
