Nice pic from NZ Herald on Facebook.
Newshub.
26 November 1989 - 5 July 2024.
That abrupt segue into Lego Masters seemed a bit disrespectful after all that. Would’ve been nice to at least have a fade to black.
Nonetheless, a beautiful tribute to what made Newshub so special in the first place. I’ll truly miss it being my 6PM go to.
It was very abrupt wasn’t it, would have made sense to close it as per normal and have the staff enter the studio for a final shot.
Juliet Speedy’s report summed it up very well, even noting the Wellington and Christchurch bureaus had already been packed up and the staff sent to Auckland for the final broadcast.
End of an era for the media landscape in NZ, and now the acceleration of Three’s demise begins.
I will give the Stuff produced bulletin a watch and see how it goes.
I suppose we didn’t want to see heartbroken presenters in tears, as a new bulletin begins in 23hrs. A perfect news program put together for the last time. Three always had the edge on broadcast News. Hopefully we’ll see those talents again somewhere. Until then, goodnight News.
I am very intrigued to see how it looks…
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. It is people, it is people, it is people.
A very beautiful moment by Mike McRoberts saying the final words on Newshub, especially all the hosts came aside to join one last scene to capture the end of a news service that started TV3 back in November 1989. A moment I will never forget watching this with a tear in my eye.
Nga mihi.
Newshub staff from Auckland, to all corners of North, South Island and the globe gathered outside the Flower Street studios just an hour before the final 6pm bulletin went to air for a recording piece to wave goodbye. Pic credit: NZ Herald
How it unfolded on television:
It actually made me sad watching the final tonight, I didnt think id get emotional lol
I found it a bit cruel to cut out so quickly to Lego Masters, and actually doesnt help paint WBD in a positive light imo.
It really does feel like the end in many aspects, but I have to admit even I watch the news and only when it pops up on youtube
From cradle to grave, the story of MediaWorks and TV3 will be defined by managerial mismanagement. There was no going back after being incorrectly valued at nearly $1 billion.
This scene felt like a movie. But it turned out it was reality and raw.
The moment Patrick Gower found that his show Paddy Gower Has Issues won’t have funding for a second season by NZ on Air. Heartbreaking.
Mike McRoberts really is one of the GOATs in Aotearoa media
I’m going to miss Newshub. I preferred it over 1 News because I saw their coverage as a good alternative to One News.
RIP Newshub 1989-2024
That was outstanding - I thought for a moment she’d green-screened it, given she was wearing the same outfit on AM in the morning. Just goes to show, an administration unwilling to change will find change thrust upon them.
Very abrubt, very un-TV3 (at least, TV3 of old). Perhaps that was the most poignant moment of the entire broadcast. Right now we live in a world of hard-cuts, rather than soft fades, inter-titles and moments to saviour.
I’ve watched the output from that little newsroom since 1989. Over that time, you get to feel as if you know the reporters, the groove of the place. You see careers start, you see surnames change, as a veiwer, you’re along for the ride. And as it was said on the bulletin last night, it is the people that make a place. It’s not commercial return, it’s not economies of scale, it’s the passion that can only come from people committed to doing what they love best. So if on the odd chance any 3 National Newshubbers do read this, thanks. I loved your work.
That was strange. I thought for a moment that it was a technical error, like they’d cut to the next show too early. Maybe it was, I don’t know. I hope so. I was hoping for and expecting the theme music to play one last time.
Very poignant words. And very true. It’s a cliche, and I don’t like these, but we don’t take time to stop and smell the roses anymore. No one does. It’s a societal thing. But times do change. And eventually everything old becomes new again.
@Brekkie - this might be why Newshub ended today, and not on 30 June:
Newshub website is going, going, gone with the homepage showing only 3 articles reflecting the changes to Stuff.
For those who are interested in the online content:
Newshub.co.nz is now a holding site for the archives of the wonderful Newshub journalists, while we work to migrate available content over to Stuff.co.nz.
Lisette Reymer has gone viral for predicting a Labour landslide victory for the UK general election, which was filmed weeks in advance before flying back home.
