Wonder if they’ll just rebrand back to Three News

Nah surely it would be called Stuff live at 6pm or something

It sounds like an okay outcome, but won’t stop the loss of hundreds of jobs it seems.

you’d think they’d want to go for something that doesn’t sounds terrible though.

Stuff-Newshub deal has been confirmed; the new 6pm bulletin will come into effect from July 6th.

Stuff will provide a 1 hour bulletin weekdays (Monday-Friday) and 30 minutes on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Despite no live-broadcasting history from the rival media, it’ll be good to give some tips from WBD and Sky for some help before the new look bulletin goes live.

WBD’s Glen Kyne has announced a deal’s been signed with Stuff to produce and provide a 6pm bulletin on TV3 & Three Now. It’ll be a one hour weekday show, half an hour at the weekend. “Limited” roles for ex Newshub staff. Kyne: “it’s important people have a choice on news at 6pm”.

Stuff will use Newshub’s existing studio at Eden Terrace while it will set up their own studio to provide and produce the bulletins. - RNZ

It’s good news that there will still be a 6pm bulletin on TV3, but…

It sounds like a small scale operation to me.

Stuff did reported that they will hire new talent and technical crew in the next few months.

Good news for choice.

Not sure it’s going to save a host of jobs - we will see a stripped back bulletin obviously. But it’s a start.

No mention of News First (produced by Newshub for Sky Open) would continue after July 5th in today’s meeting.

3news and newshub for the most part have not worked as news services so it makes sense to go with Stuff, time will tell, definitely intrigued with this outcome. I feel that the new 6pm bulletin will reflect the stuff website rather than the otherway around, and im hoping thats the case.

“Stuff Live at 6”

What a crack up that would be! It would have overseas visitors scratching their heads.

I suspect a lot of the NZ media landscape would have overseas visitors scratching their heads.

RNZ reported NewsFirst wasn’t included in the deal (at least at this point in time).

Good to see something will be produced post NewsHub, and Stuff’s reporting style isn’t that too distant from Newshubs, so it shouldn’t be too jarring for regular viewers.

As for a title, I’d like to push Shit Happened

Stuff CEO Sinead Boucher says they will bring in fewer employees from Newshub than the staff-led proposal (reportedly 40 or 50)

Hopefully WBD or SkyTVNZ will pick up a breakfast show from a local time zone, and rerun the 6pm later in the evening. Sky Open News, maybe TVNZ will get the contract or NZME… A change for the times…

Well done to Stuff, this outcome is better than nothing at all and it will be interesting to see the bulletin. I am thinking the technical expertise is probably what Stuff is after the most, the journalists are already there and lets not forget Stuff have also been reducing staff so they will be running a pretty tight ship for this to be financially sustainable for the long term.

The problem with them taking on Sky Open News is that the cost for it is up to the external provider based solely on the shared ad revenue they get from the slot, Sky currently contribute no other payment to WBD under the current arrangement as I understand it.

I think Sky dumping News First may be more appealing to them considering how they’ve more or less transitioned Sky Open (née Prime) from a general entertainment channel competing with the likes of Three to what essentially amounts to a free-to-air Sky sampler box.

Even so, can’t imagine it’s been all too expensive to run. One host in front of a green-screen with Newshub reports that’ll be repeated in half an hour on the main channel anyway.

So just to clarify there’s no Stuff Breakfast or Stuff Late in this deal?
