A pool is different to what was being proposed. Networks across the world strike up informal pools and swaps on a day to day basis.
Seven / Nine / ABC pool their helicopter footage. I believe they also pool overnight and reginal footage too.
I think it’s because it’s pretty much locked shot stuff (media conferences etc) so they don’t need too many flourishes or can fill B-roll elsewhere.
If you had an agency doing that sort of thing you might free up resources elsewhere.
I think is nice to see everyone doing their best to enjoy the last 4 months of Newshub. The AM team have been a lot more energetic and funnier in the last week, yet keeping a profound level of professionalism. Laura on the 6pm News also. It’s nice to see this, especially as these people know they won’t have a job at Newshub come July.
I assume that screen wouldn’t be replaced yeah?
You’d think not, just needs a bit more glue lol.
Just catching up on this?
What is the plan for news content going forward? Will they still have a bulletin at all?
If the proposal goes ahead, which is next month, then all of its Newshub content (bulletins, morning show, social platform accounts and its website) will be shutdown by June 30.
Seems sad for all involved not too dis similiar to what is happening on tvnz but on a bigger scale
Ie the closure of
The news operations
People across both organizations face losing jobs
With some incredible experience and talent lost
Inspired by a convo in the 6 News thread - anyone remember Darren McDonald? Not only the youngest newsreader in Australia (he was 17 when he started) but also possibly the only person to ever read the news whilst pinging!
He had/has such a brilliant voice for broadcasting.
I wonder if over the next few months we’ll start to see less of the well known faces on Newshub as they go off into new jobs, or if they’ll stay to the end?
I noticed Samantha Hayes wasn’t on the news last night.
What do you guys think?
You’d think so? Like why would they hang around til June if something else comes up. Unless it was a contract thing.
That’s what I thought. You’d think other networks would be quite quick to poach McRoberts, Hayes etc. Yet again, maybe we’ll start to see these journalists move into radio/ digital news seeing as TVNZ isn’t exactly looking for new Staff.
I’ve heard from a source that they need to work until the curtain closes to get their redundancy (which I believe is four weeks for every year worked to a maximum of 9 or 10).
what other networks? TVNZ that’s cutting costs?
I remember Darren from BTQ7 in Brisbane when I worked there. A few years later I worked at the College of Advanced Education at Mt Gravatt and the audiovisual staff there remembered Darren from when he studied (teaching?) there. He was a great TV talent and I hope he translated his skills into another field of work.
Do we need the alert symbol in the title still? Perhaps change it to a tombstone?
If you read my comment I say maybe they’ll move to digital news networks…
Maybe like what Tova O’Brien did moving to Stuff
