How old is Karen? Not being nasty but it looks like she’s ages 10 years since I last seen her on TV… which I suppose for myself is ten years lol
Karen is 48 and she’s been on TV quite a lot recently
I reckon if newshub refreshes then theres a good potential that Prime News may update
I guess it’s arguable it’s “before the rest” now that news bulletins seem to be getting earlier and earlier - has it really been “first” anymore since Newshub at 4/4.30 came on the scene? (Something that Ten on this side of the ditch had to deal with with their long-standing “First at 5” branding.)
Of course, Prime News is also Newshub-produced so it likely doesn’t matter, especially when TVNZ isn’t in the early news market anymore.
Still, with Prime sorta in that perpetual no-mans land forced by its Sky ownership, they might as well grasp *anything* as a point of difference.
Certainly like the blue as a refresh of the promo - maybe it’ll flow through to the bulletin at some point, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath.
Imogen Wells. A loss for TVNZ in my view. Eric back in the chair also I see.
She’s a great journalist, as well as Ashleigh Yates who has jumped ship to Newshub - rumour has it Yates was unimpressed with bosses who wouldn’t promote her to a full-time 6pm position.
Has always been an issue in recent times. Newshub probably has bigger staff turnover than TVNZ but it does mean you get accelerated to 6pm quicker.
Who would be the most experienced of the 6pm news reporters at Newshub? Lucy Warhurst? Whereas TVNZ has a few more reporters in their 30s-early 40s.
Definitely a long game at TVNZ, and you could say it’s paid off for many of their household name talent. Andrew Macfarlane is one to look out for, but I think they really let good ones go in Imogen and Ashleigh.
Some more experienced names who come to mind at Three are Juliet Speedy, Michael Morrah and of course Paddy.
Yep good point, forgot about Paddy in particular.
Can I ask why this bulletin still exists? Is there a content requirement? (I’m not familiar with the NZ guidelines for the TV networks)
Does not exist in NZ
It’s had success in the 5.30pm slot
And now Amanda Gillies too
You should remember that content requirements for local news were only implemented in Australia after Prime and Southern Cross went on a rampage cutting their bulletins. Otherwise we probably wouldn’t have them either.
Andrew Macfarlane is currently based in Sydney as TVNZ’s Australia correspondent.
No weather on prime tonight.
It was on but it was inserted during the last Sport segment instead of at the end. Must have been cued incorrectly in the rundown. Eric was a bit flustered when the forecast started.
Here is the vision of it,
