(Daily Telegraph editor Ben) English has taken some action. News Corp tracked down the source of the leak to Crikey that the operation was known internally as “undercoverjew” and he was asked to resign.

A spokesperson for News Corp said: “Tonight The Daily Telegraph accepted the resignation of a staff member.”

A source said that newsroom staff were appalled by the incident and are now more upset there appeared to be zero consequences for anyone involved except the leaker.

According to the First Edition of today’s The Australian, it’s Friday February 7.

Nearly nine years later. Never thought old Rupes would make it almost as long as Mummy Murdoch.

The Australian’s Media Diary reports that former Media section editor Nick Tabakoff has stepped back from his 35-year journalism career due to ill health. Tabakoff returned to The Australian in 2017 as associate editor in what was his third stint with the paper, and took on the additional role of writing Media Diary in 2018.

UPDATE 5/5: the paper reports

After three hospital visits and days of unexplained fevers, veteran journalist Nick Tabakoff finally got the news no one expects: a likely cancer diagnosis.

It wasn’t until the third visit, following scans, tests and a gut instinct from a late-night GP, that doctors identified advanced kidney cancer.

Tabakoff quietly kept filing copy while undergoing treatment, choosing privacy over public sympathy.
