News Breakfast

True. But given the ABC is always crying poor, is it justified? Or better spent on shows that do, or will, actually have an audience?

Same. The last team was much better.

Thursday (02.10.2025): Catherine Murphy is co-hosting with James. Emma live in Perth, Nate live in Mandurah, WA and Charles Brice live from Toowoomba’s festival of flowers in Qld.

No separate news or sport presenters today.

James back in the studio, looking lonely in the wideshots.

And Bridget RDO?

This is a bit dumb and gimmicky though. Five locations is just silly, confusing for the audience and doesn’t allow enough time to focus on any of them. September is always AFL and NRL finals - focus on that and hold off on the interstate tourism trips for when the silly season starts. Or don’t and do the tourism thing. Is there no EP who’s actually working through every idea and saying no to things?

NB was at its best when Virginia and Michael hosted because it focused on real hard news before anything else. When they did lifestyle and entertainment/culture it was again, more considered and focused on Australian things. Not Hollywood PR slop interviews.

James and Emma could really be a brilliant team if they went back to the basics: news, Australian culture/entertainment and consistently turning up to work every day. And just one sports presenter please.

There is one, he’s obviously happy with the slap dash approach to things.

Agreed. James, Emma, Catherine and Nate as the core team five days a week.

Amazed he’s still there. Pretty clueless. And no audience growth in the time he’s been there.

I don’t get how it is like virtually impossible for the folks at News Breakfast to rock up to work 5 days a week, every week rather than 3 days this week, 2 days next week. Even if they’re owned leave, they shouldn’t be able to take it as they please because it’s killing the consistency of the personalities. I know if I decided to take 3 days off this week and then one every now and then I’d be terminated pretty quickly.

It’s been like this for a long time for this show, although far less frequent during the Rowland and Trioli days.

To be fair, Glenday and Byrne seem to be pretty consistent in their appearances.

ABC News management doesn’t care about consistency with presenters. On 7pm as well. Just randoms popping up from time to time, some of whom need a lot of work. Commercial stations are far more aware of the importance of a consistent roster.

This is the most whiny topic here. Can we just all move on?

Surely you have something better to discuss than the work schedule of News Breakfast staff?

Why are you so defensive? Discussion about irregular presenters on a programme and how that affects the experience for the viewer is a fair discussion.

Because it’s just about the only thing that gets discussed here. It’s so repetitive.
