The stock image on the background is a bit gross.
Feels like whoever did the xmas decs just ran to Kmart and grabbed whatever they could find.

I feel like it makes the normal skyline graphic look more dated too

I’m more distracted by the kitchen background. Definitely AI generated, notice the garbled logo on the fridge:

I actually think this would be a good outcome. I don’t really see any potential talent within the current ABC lineup for breakfast television.
Matt is originally from Melbourne. I’m sure moving back to his hometown could be a strong possibility.

LOL the ABC is an alternative to commercial news showponys. Talk about not understanding the ABC or its audience.

Yes, and Matt could fit this brief.
Many television staff have moved between public and commercial networks. Matt would bring a wealth of experience to NB. Talk about not understanding the television industry.

Yes, Matt could perfectly handle the balance between covering serious news and showing some personality for morning television. He would be a natural.

The ABC tends to nurture their own, and when they do go outside the “family” it is a very targeted pick, like David Spears in 2019 for example. They also don’t team people up without firstly 'trialling" how they relate, as they did with Lisa Millar and Michael, and recently with James Glenday with Emma and Bridget.
Which doesn’t mean that there has to be any great “chemistry” … just an acceptable working relationship. The ABC is certainly not going to bring in an outsider at this late stage to fill this key role.

Underwear brand scores prominent plug on ABC News Breakfast
ABC News Breakfast viewers were subject to a bit of accidental advertising on the national broadcaster on Wednesday morning, as an interview segment featured a prominent brand logo.
Queensland boxer Liam Paro sported a tee for Step On, an Australian bamboo underwear company, during an interview with sports presenter, Charles Brice.
To the credit of the ABC, the production team moved quickly, inserting a second news ticker along the bottom of the screen to shield the logo, before cutting to stock footage for close to a minute.
When they returned to Paro, he was leaning in toward the screen, doing his very best self-censorship.
I don’t this stacks up to what was seen.
He leaned in towards the camera right at the start after about 6 seconds (before stock footage). The 2nd ticker is standard and at no point was it covering the logo as he was already leaning in towards the camera. The stock footage looked planned.

No, written by someone who’s never seen the show before.

Can you name any high profile commercial TV (Seven, Nine and Ten) names that have gone to another high profile job at ABC News?
Hamish Macdonald.
Paul Barry, Ellen Fanning, Emma Alberici (all ex ACA, Emma also was a finance presenter) Ali Moore (Business Sunday and main Today fill in), Sarah Ferguson (from Sunday), Lexy Hamilton-smith (TT and 10 News). Dan Bourchier came from Sky.

Has also had a few stints at 7News over the years.
Kathryn Robinson also went from 10 to ABC.
As others have stated above, there are many. A few more Chris Bath, Barrie Cassidy, Paul Kennedy, Juanita Phillips and Natasha Exelby.
Please stop digging a bigger hole for yourself.
LMAO, decades ago. Seven and Nine ran respectable news operations back then.
So still no high profile figures akin to a Monique Wright or Matt Doran?
That’s your conclusion? ![]()
I rest my case.

Judging by a few random rating article’s I had a look at, they are getting the same amount of ratings as Chris Bath (who will also be presenting Sydney Drive next year) does reading 10 News First weekends.
Also given the level of promotion that Seven gives Weekend Sunrise (only a few promo’s for the next day’s episode on Friday and Saturday), I doubt that they are that high profile either.
look, two things are true…
-Matt Doran probably isn’t going to host NB.
and
-Plenty of people have gone from commercial channels to the ABC.
Whoever they get, hopefully treats it like a full time job and not a holding position while they look for other things to do.
