Hard no to that from me. Weekend Breakfast is a mess.
Part of the issue with the weekend edition is that it is basically run on a skeleton crew. What @BJT2 is proposing is that the weekend program is shifted to Melbourne to be able to use the resources of the weekday program, and share presenters.
Offsiders couldnât move, would need a new production team and host.
Thanks for updating, that covers this week.
Letâs see what the next few weeks bring.
YeaahhhhâŚ
Tuesday (17.09.2024) - Thursday (19.09.2024): Emma Rebellato is presenting sport.
Friday (20.09.2024): Emma Rebellato is co-hosting with Michael. Charles Brice is on sport. Nate is presenting the weather from the National Communications Museum in Melbourne.
He made it through one day I guess
He didnât - apparently Catherine Murphy now does Mondayâs (unless somethings changed)
Iâve given up. Theyâre clearly taking the piss. It canât be this hard.
Ahh I was confusing those caps for yesterday.
Ok, made it through no days haha
Honestly they should have had Emma be the new co-host - sheâs the only one thatâs always there!
Exactly - she shouldâve gotten the role as she is the only consistent thing about the show.
At this point I wouldnât be surprised if viewers think that Emma is Michaelâs co-host, and Bridget is the fill in.
After charming audiences on ABC News Breakfast and winning the Logie for Most Popular New Talent in 2022, the former AFL footballer was riding a wave of new opportunities. When he was named Most Popular Presenter the following year, the media beehive buzzed again â including another request to write a memoir.
But Armstrong, 34, had no interest in putting another football story on the shelves.
âI was asked at 32 or something,â he laughs.
âAnd I was like, Iâve got to do something first.â
Instead, he channelled his creativity into a childrenâs book, George the Wizard, set for release in October.
Who says itâs his main job? His arrangements have clearly changed. This seems like a continued unfair characterisation of him and in turn his work ethic, and a bit of an outdated view on work arrangements in this day and age really.
If ABC are happy with the arrangement, then shouldnât any criticism of the roster arrangement be directed towards them, rather than the presenter?
Relax. If anything itâs turned from criticism into a long running joke now of all presenters on the show.
The newly appointed co-host is hardly there too.
If the ABC are happy with it thatâs fine but doesnât mean we canât comment or mention it, being a media forum and all.
I havenât tried to shut down any conversation, I responded to you post simply offering my view on the situation which is a common topic in here and youâve brought up a few times.
A lot of the commentary generally calls into question individuals commitment to the program etc, but that is a leadership flaw to have it to the extent that they do as itâs obviously very noticeable at times while theyâre off pursuing other opportunities outside the program.
Okay, the boss, EP or whatever needs to rein it in. If these people want to do other things thatâs great but the show needs to be the EPâs priority so they need to have people who actually want to be there.
I would bet dollars on it if they had a consistent team day in and day out for viewers to build relationships with their ratings would improve within a year.
Oh itâs both! Lack of commitment from the staff and lack of leadership from the boss.
Itâs really not. A lot of Breakfast presenters have commitments to other ABC programs, and are encouraged to take them up. It would not be fair nor sustainable to lock talent into solely presenting Breakfast, especially when staff from other divisions with more regular work hours can more easily move across to do side projects.
Fair point - no reason why they have to be kept on Breakfast all the time if they can use their talents elsewhere to get the best out of them - most ABC regional reporters file for Radio and Online daily, as well as the odd TV report, plus regular stories for Landline, The Country Hour, and other rural programs, so there is no reason why the breakfast presenterâs canât do more than one job.
I also donât think the ABC focuses on making the personalities a big part of the showâs appeal, like Sunrise with Nat and Shirvo, and Today with Karl and Sarah - itâs the content thatâs the main focus (i.e. the latest news without a big song and dance about it), even if said content is a little bit more soft these days.
