News Breakfast

It really isn’t harsh. Everyone is away so much. Bridget’s been a permanent host for 2 weeks now and she’s been away 3 days already.

They really need to find people who can commit properly. If they want to do other things they need to leave like Lisa. This needs to be their main focus.

Could you imagine Nat Barr and Karl being away so much?

These shows scream family and relationships. Think Kochie and Mel. They were part of peoples families and morning routines.

Just like the evening news. As most readers say when they leave “I have enjoyed being part your living rooms for the past …. Years”.

Reliability and stability are important.

He could also be dealing with personal issues, etc.

Wouldn’t be a good look if they removed him is he is dealing with something in his life that’s not within his control.

Again, it’s not just Tony though.

I really don’t think it’s personal issues. He’s everywhere else but news breakfast.

He was even on Guy’s spelling show too.

To be fair (and sort of prove your point), Karl was always off when Lisa was there. Those last few years were quite bad for this. They seem to have pulled back on those “special assignments” quite a bit

And it’s heavily impacted the show. The full team seem to be there now most days apart from illness etc.

It’s made a difference and the show has improved in ratings over the years.

They clearly realised that being there is more important than the other side jobs.

Yes, I think it’s clear you have to be all in for breakfast for it to work

Charles Brice has revealed he suffered a horrific skin injury when he leaned on the mixer while having a shower in his accommodation. It happened during a short holiday in Berlin, before he flew to Paris to cover the Paralympics for News Breakfast.

Monday (09.09.2024): Catherine Murphy is presenting sport. Emma Rebellato on news today.

Isn’t Emma Rebellato doing news every day since Bridget Brennan is now one of the main presenters? Or is it only when she isn’t covering for one of the other rotating roles .

Emma Rebellato looks to be hosting the remainder of the week with Arianna Levy listed as news presenter according to EPG.

News breakfast also had coverage of protests and Paralympians this morning.

I’ve updated the listing now with what I gather is the roster since Lisa left:

Looks like hosting “full time” meant four days a week. It seems Tony is now on four days since he returned last week.

The really should move weekend breakfast to Melbourne. The weekend team could do Fridays if need be with the same feel and look. I’m sure integrating both teams in font and behind the camera’s would be a lot easier.

Only issue would be is that Offsiders uses the Melbourne studio between 10am and 10:30am, when Weekend Breakfast is on the NC between 10am and 11am + they use some of the space used by News Breakfast IIRC.

I suppose you could move Offsiders up to Sydney and do it out of the NC studio (Gives half an hour to reset for daytime NC bulletins at 10:30am).

Its not an issue. Offsides could easily be moved, The ABC have another small studio they could utilise at Southbank or just move the programs start time to 11.00am.

Would be possible if they used the control room in Sydney or Canberra - otherwise they would be spending money getting a whole second crew into the studio. Would still need to bring in extra camera operators since it isn’t automated.

Moving Offsiders to 11am wouldn’t be good either since they would be giving Nine a head-start.

The current set up is a compete waste of money… they have three live working studios on Sunday mornings in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, for three different programmes. Doesn’t really make much sense dose it?

There would still be people in Sydney anyway since the NC has bulletins after 11am, regardless if there was Weekend Breakfast or not. Would be easy, since the news studio in Melbourne is automated (unlike the secondary studio), to just have the Insiders control room do Offsiders like how it use to be when both programs were in Melbourne.

No, staff rosters would be pushed back to accommodate. The NC would only need two teams throughout the day. Afternoons ad evenings. The Breakfast crew would be accommodated by Melbourne.
