Newcastle Radio

yep - declining ad revenue but shareholder demands to grow margins and profits.

NewFM. The whole world is looking at you right now.

Yet you continue to underperform and under-deliver.

Change the “JackFM” format. Pick a direction and stick to it.

Same story at 2HD too. The owners just don’t want to invest in building a highly competitive station.

The answer is so damn obvious for Newcastle (if anyone could be stuffed)…

  • Hit106.9: CHR format, heavily networked, but with high quality national programming
  • Triple M Newcastle: Keep doing what they’re doing. A bloody powerhouse.
  • NewFM: These guys should be the disruptor. Leave the network log to Sydney/recorded separately. Just go with an alternate format very similar to Triple M Newcastle. Be cheeky, different & shake it up. Don’t worry about top notch talent or shows, because the right music & production will win the ratings.
  • 2HD: Talk & classic hits. Break the big local stories, provide decent local news & don’t always rely on the SRN network programming. I’d throw in more local shows (including more regular music being played).

If anyone wants to win in Newcastle, just do the above.

Looks like there will be a new state based networked show broadcast from Newcastle.

I was told by an SCA exec probably 10 years ago that radio is all about localism, attend the opening of an envelope if you have to.

A state wide regional breakfast is basically just a podcast.

They have been doing statewide for a while now, they are just expanding

And sounds it, have a listen to the shows wrapping up.

I assume they keep local news and traffic.

Also someome in the industry has said Hit may have local “Windows” or recorded opt-outs like NBN News does, in Newcastle at least; but this is just a rumour

But I’m sure (unlike NBN News) Hit breakfast NSW won’t appear too Newcastle centric to other markets.

They may do but it won’t last long, more work for no reason.

Jess and Ducko will be networked across NSW from the Newcastle Studios… Nick won’t return…

" Jess & Ducko will be the NSW Hit Network breakfast show, replacing Nick, Jess & Ducko . Cameron: “They have been hosting the Newcastle Hit Network breakfast for several years, although the show will now be a duo. Jess is on maternity leave and she returns early in 2024 to start broadcasting across NSW. The show will also be heard on Hit Gosford as that becomes a satellite station for us.” Nick Gill is the co-host who won’t return in 2024."

The once mighty, all local 101.3 Central Coast, first on air as Coast Rock FM is now “a satellite station for us” (SCA).

When will these fools wake up and realise you don’t maximise revenue by cutting costs at your station adjacent to a metro market?

The sooner ARN acquire these stations, the better.

It looks like Star 104.5 will continue their dominance on the Central Coast.
I guess SCA are just happy to combine the market share of Hit and Triple M in their sales pitch to clients rather than taking Star 104.5 directly on.

These generic formats cannot compete anyway in competitive markets where a strong competitor has a local and well researched music log. Look at i98 ratings compared to Wave fm.

That’s either a poorly written article that should embarrass the last few at SCA who care about quality or it’s AI assisted/written?

Concur that this reads like a ChatGPT eulogy.

Surely the EP could’ve written something? Oh wait, she was sacked too.

Bots could potentially replace a lot of jobs in radio… voice trackers, music directors, and ad/promo writers… it is automation on steroids sadly.
