Interesting … I’ll have to cross check 97.5 and 90.5 to see if there is a delay, and report back.
Coverage to the south sounds similar to what I experienced with the old Eagles Nest Close site.
Thanks for investigating and for the photos too.

I just checked both 2HD FMs, 90.5 and 97.5 appear to be in sync content wise, which suggests to me that 90.5 is getting its own feed?
Is it in full stereo? Or if you listen to The Doors song you only hear one channel on both speakers. Riders on the storm really sounds good . Like good old 2SM on dab when 2HD is studios are on air.
From what I’ve heard so far, it does seem to be full stereo (both 90.5 and 97.5).
Is John Laws on mono? ie from the studio Sydney?
I wonder if you could avoid listening to 1143 in Newcastle now? Or around the CBD the coverage of 1143 is better?
Between 90.5 and 97.5, they make 1143 virtually redundant now.
Probably only around Maitland - Cessnock, you would probably need 1143 there.
Quite possible, but still not sure, it’s analogue, there would be no noticeable delay between them as there’s no decoding time, etc. needed, & the analogue RF travels at close to the speed of light.
Compare 1143 (fed directly from the studio under Maitland Rd via cables) to 97.5 (fed via microwave studio to transmitter), then 1143 to 90.5 & see if you notice any differences between 1143 & the 2 translators, you’ll probably find there’s no difference there either.
Back in the old full analogue days a jock in the studio used to monitor the audio off air, (studio through transmitter & back to studio) with no noticeable delay (maybe a couple of milliseconds), the only reason you can’t do that now is because of digital delay in the chain, be it in the audio processor, the STL, etc. now there’s too much delay, especially if it’s not a full digital audio chain & you have a couple of Analogue to Digital to Analogue or vice versa conversions happening & also with the changing of audio from say WAVE play-out, into AAC, OPUS for transport across the network & links rather than keeping it Uncompressed Linear PCM audio. All this introduces a delay big enough (usually around 20 milliseconds or more) which puts timing out & distracts/confuses you when talking, as your brain notices this much difference between what you’re saying & what you’re hearing back, normally there’s not that much delay between your mouth & your ears.
That I’m not sure of yet on 90.5, yes it’s definitely stereo, & I’ve only heard a couple of songs, & am not sure yet whether there is stereo separation there, or it’s stereo output with a mono feed?
I’d have to hear some songs with wider stereo separation, a Beetles song or the Doors song mentioned would confirm it for me. If 97.5 is full stereo which I think it is, & if 90.5 is fed off air from that, then it would have to be full stereo too.
That’s by design not pot luck, that’s the way BOG works, if you can’t convert an AM, then make up a story about how weak the AM is & you can’t fix it, so need FM translators, then build an FM translator network that overbuilds the AM coverage, giving them an FM station by stealth.
Maitland/Cessnock, that’s the next stop for a 2HD FM translator (not confirmed, just my thinking).
I just listened to 2SM on DAB and John Laws it definitely stereo, it is a nice sound, I assume the Brett’s afternoon show will be the same we only hear one channel on both speakers. It might be the reverse up at 2HD. ie It is stereo when it is from the 2HD studios but perhaps mono from Sydney is my guess.
The 7 day test transmission period of 90.5 2HD from Belmont North has ended, but its still on air.
Hopefully this means there were no issues and it will stay on now permanently.
What depts of NBN were ever at SCA’s Broadbeach studios?
Sales and Commercial Production. No standalone NBN News Journalists on the Coast.
Was it NBN staff on 9 payroll or SCA staff contracted to sell NBN/9 airtime along with SCA’s radio assets?
I think it was SCA staff. Now it’s WIN staff doing 9NBN sales.
That’s across Northern NSW right? So in theory WIN would be moving into SCA offices in Gosford, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast (Broadbeach)?
I presume @crankymedia there would be both WIN and SCA Sales Executives working together but obviously the WIN ones are focusing more on TV Sales while the SCA ones are Radio.
I can’t see why WIN staff would be moving, SCA don’t have any operational links to 9NBN anymore… or to WIN.
If anything, WIN would be more likely to colocate with 9NBN.
If Win did co-locate with 9/NBN, would the ACCC have concerns from anti competitive provisions?
I think any ACCC concerns would be in regards to the sales arrangements (WIN doing 9NBN sales as well as their own) as opposed to just purely co-locating.
It would only if Prime think it’s anti competitive based off a complaint. At the moment they must do ok sales wise because they don’t seem to care.
Still not listed in the ACMA register…
