Lego Masters coming to TVNZ next year, rather than Three who have aired both the AUS and US versions.

Surprised Three didn’t pick this up, considering how well the international versions did for them.

True. Quite possible that screentime picked up local rights and then opened it up to the highest bidder.

Wonder why Three did not bid ugh enough?

Will the latest season of The Bachelor Australia air in NZ? It started back last night in Australia

Yes it will end up on Bravo at some point like all the other Aussie versions.

Saving their pennies so they can pinch back Home and Away to rescue Newshub Live at 6.

Is that likely because I have not seen the ratings for the time it was on TVNZ 2 I’am thinking abysmal peformance in recent years

Do we know why TVNZ didn’t air Matildas v NZ match last night in Tokyo?

Was it exclusive to Sky Sport NZ?

They broadcast in NZ, not Tokyo.

It would be interesting to see its ratings performance vs it’s time on Three, I’m sure it still holds its own at 6.30 against the news hours, audience has probably halved over the years though. TVNZ does appear to be spending up a storm with programme rights, just wondering when Discovery will start opening up the cheque book for Three.

They have a weird deal with Sky - have committed to show every NZ athlete/team at some point but given it’s a pre-Olympic event probably decided there wasn’t much point or they were only allowed to show sports as part of rolling coverage and not a fixed one-off event.

It really is. IIRC, TVNZ can show any event involving NZ athletes live but anything which doesn’t have NZ participation can only be shown on delay

I guess they come in as a secondary/junior partner to the deal but it will probably be noticeable when the 100m final etc isn’t live on there.

Prime did a few weird things when they had the rights for 12/16 as part of the Sky tie-up where most of their stuff was all shifted between 5-30 minutes.

TVNZ pledging to show every NZ athlete/team at some point is noble, although given our lack of sporting prowess v other countries (unlike, say Australia), we actually don’t always enjoy watching our tae kwon do athletes for the sake of it.

Pretty tacky of TVNZ cutting to ad breaks during the opening ceremony. Especially during the moment of silence.

Man, I hate it that we have ads on TV One.

I wonder if they pulled the trigger for the ads too early for that spot. It seemed like a pre-determined break spot for networks to pull out.

Just my two cents about this.
Honestly I do feel sorry for TVNZ. Still horrible timing on that ad break during the opening ceremony.
I mean they have to produce a profit for us as a Crown Entity so they have to have ads on their coverage.

The chance of having a fully fledged and funded public broadcaster has truly sailed since TVNZ being gutted out throughout the years. There is no strong public appetite for increasing funding for a proper Public Broadcaster even with the possible merger of TVNZ and RNZ the budget will probably be skimp. I can only wish for more money.

People want little to no ads during the Olympics but the government/people won’t invest to have it more available. I’m sure Sky and Discovery would have something to say about it.

It is a pretty obvious sentiment among our community but it just a bit frustrating to see people commenting about how TVNZ has dropped the ball. I think that pretty much happened after the 2000’s.

We should really just see TVNZ as a commercial operator these days.

I think half of TVNZ’s problems with their Olympic coverage (so far, I mean, it’s early days yet) is that A; We’ve become accustomed to Prime’s half-arsed coverage, and if what TVNZ were doing was on Prime, we’d probably forgive them; and B; they’re padding waaaaay too much… I mean, coming from the news tonight they spend 1 minute and 30 (it may have been less, but it felt like longer) with images/music, when there’s a road-race on, with kiwis in it… all they really needed to do was throw from the news (which they did), have the 15 second Toyota/ANZ promo, then cross to the cycling with Scotty doing a V/O of what’s coming up. Job done.

They’ve over-complicating it… and it’s only day one!

I’d love to now what hoops Sky are making them jump through though… perhaps it’s all their fault?

And as for the TVNZ/RNZ overhaul… it seems more likely it’s a return to a NZBC overseeing both arms funding style of model that we had in the 80’s… probably because of the different cultures at both organisations, nothing else will probably work.

And yes… TVNZ lost the plot… but I’m not sure if it was in the early 2000’s or was earlier than that… not that I have any evidence to cite for that.

Sorry for the long post… I might go back and finish that Pinot Gris!

Lotto coming out of a different set tonight due to the Olympics. Also not using the 1 News set like they did during the election/debates last year.
