Caps of Three’s State of Origin Coverage
Probably taking advantage of the extra eyeballs for the State of Origin game tonight. Some caps incoming from the Intro.
That’s interesting…
So they don’t play ads like they do on television on ThreeNow.
For mobile users like me, I just get normal ads aired on television (instead of that “Advertisement” watermark).
Yeah didn’t seem like I was getting the television ads but instead a custom set of ads for the website
Which commentary are they using?
Their own or from Channel 9?
Nine.
Doesn’t look half bad with the desk in front of the viz wall… those screens they installed either side recently don’t look as out of place
From what I heard around work this is where the news desk was meant to move to after the election
Now those “new” screens make sense. So did this become a live test, I wonder?
Hi,
What are the Ratings like for Patriot Brains on NZ TV? Is it good enough for 2nd Season?
it has been rating disappointingly in last couple of weeks averaging 2.0%/1.4% of 25-54 to 18-49 demos according to Screenscribe.net.
Can anyone summarize what was written in today’s NZ Herald article about TVNZ’s ondemand upgrade as its behind a paywall.
Main points:
Paying to avoid ads - Kevin Kenrick says he would like a paid on-demand service that would offer ad-free viewing, eventually - but not yet. He likens it to ITV; they have an ad-lite or an ad-free option. ITV found that most people continued to watch it with ads but they just felt a whole lot better about it because they have the choice of both.
Your own TV station - while Netflix and the like are great for choosing what you want to watch, whenever you want, a common complaint from viewers is that having a wall of endless choices just results in decision paralysis. So in line with how linear TV works, Kenrick imagines an experience where viewers don’t have to constantly choose what to watch. Instead, the choices are already made and scheduled by the programmers who curate them to consumers’ tastes.
The news on demand - “In a digital world, people don’t want the bulletin. They want to pick individual stories,” Kenrick said. So TVNZ is now replacing workflow processes to something that’s story-centric as opposed to programme centric, making it easier for viewers to pick and choose the news segments they actually want to see rather than sitting through the entire 6pm bulletin.
Cheers/thank you for this summary. Very interesting they are looking at the ITV model even though people still preferred to have the ad version. The tv station concept is a good idea considering there is the problem of too much choice, I’m a little iffy about the news one as this may diminish the 6pm offering of everyone getting the same package of news but then again the ability to cut fluff stories is tempting. Very interesting times ahead.
What will have an impact ion on their programs/catchup?
I’m assuming it will still have catch up along with newer features as outlined in the article.

Polynesian** **Storytellers Bring A Fresh Voice To Local Comedy.
Comedy Central And Sky Greenlight ‘Bouncers’ For An Eight-Part Digital Series With The Support Of NZ On Air.
Comedy Central and Sky today announced the commissioning of a new eight-part digital series, Bouncers from New Zealand creators Culture Factory and West Park.
Slated to premiere in 2022, the series will follow a rag-tag trio of clueless security officers and their boisterous supervisor as they struggle to keep their jobs in the temp department of a security company.
Made with the support of NZ On Air, the series is set to continue to break fresh ground for Polynesian voices and content in New Zealand.
Executive Producer Hanelle Harris said: “ Bouncers is important not only because of its representation of marginalised Polynesian subcultures, but because of the opportunity it opens up for the next generation of storytellers.”
Following the overwhelming success of the ground-breaking comedy special SIS , produced by Culture Factory for Comedy Central and Sky in 2020, the creative team are excited to be collaborating with comedian Joe Daymond for this new project. Off the back of the 2020 one-hour special, a full series of SIS (six 30-minute episodes) has also been commissioned and funded and is currently in production.
Daymond’s infamous sketch character Iwin, from the viral sensation This Is Auckland , has become a local icon for millennials and will feature as a key player in the series. Praised for its representation of Polynesian subcultures, Bouncers will be an extension of the authentic nightlife scene depicted in the original online sketch series.
Premiering on Comedy Central UK’s YouTube channel, the eight-part series will also air in New Zealand across Comedy Central on Sky, followed by a free-to-air broadcast on Prime.
Bouncers is produced by Culture Factory and West Park.
