New Zealand TV

Are those peak or average numbers? It doesn’t say…

Which makes it irrelevant.

Lack of context with statistics means there’s no point in publishing it… that number could mean anything… could it be the total, a total of viewers captured every 15 minutes, per household, averaged over people in a household? HHS and significant others? Perhaps 700,000 of them were cats? Who knows?

That’s equivalent to 8 out of 10 cats!

Wonder who has the rights to The Chase Australia at the moment. Guessing TVNZ now but I know Prime was airing it for a while there… Wonder if it would rate any better here with the new host… AOK was why I never watched

Correct, TVNZ. They have it as on on demand show though, isn’t being broadcast. I think they aired some episodes in the past on TV One but that was before it went to Prime.

It’s on about 3:30 on Duke.

It’s fucking dreadful.

As good as burried then lol. Obviously they don’t want it anywhere near the UK version.

Yeah, I don’t know why TVNZ would even buy it.

They tried to make it work in prime time when it first started but did abysmally bad and it got relegated to weekend mornings if I recall rightly, then Prime picked it up and showed it in primetime in a wacky move only Prime would ever try, it tanked and got bumped to daytime again and now it its on Duke.

The UK version is good because of the personalities involved, not necessarily the game play/format (which I also enjoy) which is the fundamental mistake I think TVNZ made first time around. (“Oh if Kiwis love the British version, they’ll enjoy watching a version from closer to home”).

But they’re going to have a different host soon soo 99.995% of the dreadfulness will be taken away lol

MEDIA RELEASE 2 JUNE 2021
SKY SPORT AND DISCOVERY NZ PARTNER TO BRING STATE OF ORIGIN GAME 1 LIVE TO THREE SKY SPORT RETAINS EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO REMAINDER OF THE SERIES
Sky and Discovery, the global leader in real-life entertainment, have further expanded their partnership announcing today that State of Origin Game 1 will broadcast live on Three and ThreeNow on 9 June 2021, as well as live on Sky Sport and Sky Sport Now. The remainder of the State of Origin series will be live and exclusive on Sky.
The broadcast is the first time Three has offered State of Origin in 19 years, and will enable all New Zealanders to watch Game 1 of the State of Origin series live across Three, ThreeNow, Sky and Sky Sport Now.
Come game day, Newshub Late will air at the special time of 9.30pm with State of Origin coverage commencing from 9.50pm. Build-up, halftime and post-match commentary will be localised with a team of expert reporters and presenters from Newshub and Sky.
Sky Sport viewers will get the full experience from Nine’s expert panel starting at 9pm and going right through until kick-off at 10.10pm. Sky customers will also get Nine’s in-depth analysis at half-time and full time as the Nine team reviews the action.
Glen Kyne, General Manager, Discovery New Zealand and Australia said: “We are excited to be bringing State of Origin to our Three audience in partnership with Sky. It’s been a long time since this iconic event was last seen live on free-to-air and we know Kiwis will be thrilled to catch the action live on Three and ThreeNow.”
Jonny Errington, Sky’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Sky and Discovery have been partners for many years, and we’re pleased to work together to deliver this special broadcast of Game 1 of State of Origin on Three. It builds on Sky’s longstanding commitment to offer key sports events to New Zealand audiences on free-to-air as well as on Sky. In previous years State of Origin has been offered delayed on Prime, and this partnership steps that up with the live broadcast of Game 1 on Three.”
“Our goal at Sky is to connect New Zealanders with the sport and entertainment they love, in ways that work for them. Partnerships are an important part of our strategy, and we look forward to working with the team at Discovery and Three to bring this match to kiwi sports fans.”
Andrew Abdo, Chief Executive of the NRL, said: “We are delighted that the first match of State of Origin, a rivalry that captures all sports lovers’ imagination, is being offered to a broader audience in New Zealand via Sky’s collaboration with Discovery. This is a great outcome for our fans in New Zealand.”

Is Three trying to maximise the audience for State of Origin? I don’t think that will work well least the channel have not broadcast any sporting events in years.

I think Sky is by offering it up to Three.

Watch the first one on FTA, subscribe for the next two.

Yeah, similar to BBC/TVNZ with cricket. Show a game or two, and then sign up for the rest.

Is the stuff on CRC Motorsport not considered sporting events anymore?

In my book, the people from Newshub (which is owned by Discovery) are specialists in news and current affairs and Sky are specialists in sports content. And I don’t think Newshub will be rebranded as Sky News (with no relation to the British and Australian equivalents).

What do you reckon?

I think you will find he is also the reason why a lot of Aussies don’t watch either :joy:
