Discovery might get Neighbours as well Home and Away and Shortland Street if TVNZ merger with RNZ go ahead went non commercial meaning New Zealand version of ABC

They could easily run Big Bang repeats or Home and Away at 7pm and still pull in the ratings on 2 if Shortland Street disappeared

That just looks shit with the zoom panellists. Surely they could frame their shots better? Or don’t have a shit virtual set.

How far is Shortland Street filmed in advance?

This article suggests up to 8 weeks in advance

“We think if we go with our foot to the floor, we can deliver more episodes in two weeks, and then we’ve got a lot of catching up to do … it will mean, at times, we’re shooting 60 minutes of television a day, which is pretty insane. Normally we’d do between 25 and 32 minutes.”

The long production break during the level 4 lockdown has meant some storylines needed to be tweaked to accommodate off-screen action - including the birth of actor Ngahuia Piripi’s baby.

This was interesting

Driver says “eagle-eyed viewers” are likely to notice other stories will not play out with as much screen time as anticipated. Under level 3 restrictions, cast and crew numbers drop from the usual 100 to just 30 people on site and extras are often played by production staff

“You might spot the location manager as a doctor in one scene and then as a police woman in another.”

Someone just said that Three is becoming an home renovation channel with boring home reno programmes and Saturday night movies are always action no wonder why Three are losing viewers, I got a feeling that Discovery was a wrong Choice

Well…there’s a couple of things to point out.

Discovery already has HGTV and has already started to infiltrate Discovery’s daytime lineup with reruns of House Hunters. At the moment from what it looks like on the weekday schedule, those kinds of shows are only used as filler on the main Three channel, e.g House Hunters Renovation between the 11:30 news and a nature-themed show, or Tiny Luxury between Match Game and the 4:30 news. As for primetime, the afternoon shows are repeated in the dead of night, right before the infomercials start. Saturday airings are usually in the afternoon, before any major programming begins, while Sunday has no sign of them anywhere.

Action movies are on Friday nights, not Saturday nights btw. Saturday nights are for family movies.

Hard to schedule programs when you can’t produce them. May as well use programming discovery already owns.

They could use other stuff than home reno

TVNZ is casting for a new dating show, “summer of fun in the island sun” - produced by WBITVP so I’m guessing maybe Bachelor in Paradise since TVNZ also have both local Bach versions but that wouldn’t really result in a casting call if they recycle previous contestants.

Love Island maybe?

Possibly, TVNZ does have the UK version On Demand as well as on streamer Neon.

Love Island NZ was previously announced in early 2019 for Three, to be produced by ITV Studios Australia - presumably this didn’t go ahead due to Covid.
