New Zealand TV

Its having a linear broadcast on TVNZ 2 on Saturday nights. Seems very bizarre in terms of programming it in that slot, they could of run it on TVNZ 1 in a suitable slot.

Bizarre as. I guess TVNZ should be evolving TV2ā€™s programming given their core demographic tend to go streaming, but binging on Downton on linear TVā€¦ Iā€™m not sure about that one.

Strange choice, hardly a compelling show as your news lead-in. Surely it canā€™t be permanent change, theyā€™ll run out of episodes very quickly.

Further evidence nothing beats The Chase.

Three need to go hard for Home and Away when itā€™s next up for renewal.

Yep, Home and Away for 5:30 & Shortland Street for 7pm :sunglasses:

Kevin Kenrick to step down as Chief Executive of TVNZ

TVNZ Chief Executive, Kevin Kenrick has advised the Board of his intention to step down after more than nine years in the role. He will continue in the role for the next six months before leaving at the end of February 2022.

TVNZ Chair, Andy Coupe, said that Kevin has being an outstanding leader throughout his tenure.

ā€œFrom his appointment in 2012, Kevin has led the organisation through a period of significant growth and transformational change. Whilst we will be sad to see him leave, the board is confident that Kevin has positioned TVNZ strongly for future success.

The Board would like to thank Kevin, not only for his contribution over the past nine years, but also for offering to stay on for an extended notice period, which will give the Board more time to seek a successor of his calibre. They will be big shoes to fill,ā€ he said.

In recent years, TVNZ has transformed itself from a legacy broadcaster into a comprehensive digital and linear content service. TVNZ OnDemand has grown exponentially to now reach 1 million viewers a week, and an unwavering commitment to local news, entertainment content and sport has secured TVNZā€™s role in New Zealandersā€™ daily lives in the face of increased global competition.

Kevin said he is proud of what TVNZ has achieved in his time as Chief Executive.

ā€œItā€™s a privilege to lead such an iconic New Zealand company and I still pinch myself that we engage more than 2 million viewers every day across our content platforms. Iā€™ve loved the opportunity to work with the incredibly talented team at TVNZ and feel confident that the business is in great shape and is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities ahead.

This has been a tough decision to make and yet it feels like the right time to finish. It gives the board time to select a new CEO heading into the public media future, and Iā€™m committed to supporting them with this leadership transition.ā€

After finishing at TVNZ, Kevin plans to take an extended break before making any decisions about future roles.

Chair Andy Coupe says the Board will commence a search for a replacement shortly.

You canā€™t really argue that heā€™s done a great job, especially with digital first approach from quite early on . I remember an interview then Three exec Andrew Szusterman gave around the same time saying he didnā€™t think it was worth the investment for a catch up site.

Does Neighbours do well there?

It does okay. Double billed before Home and Away at 6.

Home and Away always seems to have a bit more of a buzz about it.

We never get any ratings for it but Neighbours has held that 6pm spot for quite some time and itā€™s in a tricky position up against two news bulletins.

Does anyone have the Maori TV covid opener for the 1PM pressers?

Low quality capture of it

Looks quite good, they just need to extend the music from the opener and fade it into the opening shot so thereā€™s not that weird pause in between.

Itā€™s not just me right the Maori TV version is very similar to the Newshub one

Just kinda in reverse order in the way the images animate.

Just the two weekends.

I saw this last weekend. Itā€™s great that they have a little studio fare this time despite the limitations with their coverage. I hope next time they bid for the games, they provide more streams on TVNZ Ondemand and or use the plus 1 channels for extra coverage.

They should have done this earlier

Paralympics NZ have told Stuff they want more accessibility for viewers, especially for potential athletes at home to watch and be inspired to compete. This comes high on their agenda ahead of the 2024 Paris Games.

The article cites that after the success of Rio, Tokyo seemed poorly-planned, lacking in feel, wanting for pop-up channels and having messy live-streams. Which from what I saw of it, sums things up pretty well.
