Debuted to 522,800 Viewers according to NZ on Air. Will be interesting to see how many stuck around for episode 2.

It isn’t really Air NZ’s 80th anniversary. It’s 80 years since TEAL began, a precursor to Air NZ.

Air NZ as a brand has only existed 55 years, the current company was formed in 1989 when it was privatised (but has had many different owners and forms before that).

It’s kinda like saying Spark (formerly Telecom here in NZ) is over 100 years old because it used to be the P&T Board. Happy 139th birthday Spark!

I also don’t really get the issue being raised either. Just because it’s their birthday isn’t any reason not to show it.

371,100 for ep 2.

God, dramas do not even get 371,000 in Australia’s top 5 markets with 16 million people.
Has FTA not declined and fragmented as much in NZ as Australia?

Yeah, completely different market. The multichannels that came into the market in Australia never really happened here (TVNZ has had a few goes at it but only has 1 Multi (Duke), outside of time shifted channels), Three has Bravo but that was a rebrand of TV4, while Three Life (lifestyle and DIY channel) shut down a month ago and was replaced with music video channels.

TVNZ1 still dominates the 5+ market and has done quite well at future proofing with its online offerings as well.

Why don’t multis work in NZ?

Mix of things. TVNZ never quite got the pitch on them right or they’ve never been able to fund them sufficiently (Some were public service channels funded by govt but then the tap got turned off).

It’s also a much much smaller ad market so harder to justify as many channels.

Gotcha thanks for info

Plus the market’s already scattered with little independent channels, so there’s few niches left to fill.

Not quite, but yeah, same LCN. Very different programming from what was on FOUR

We’ve got 3 different religious channels, about the same Chinese channels, and Indian channel, some local channels, lifestyle &c &c &c
There isn’t really room for fragmentation, at least, at a profit.

Sommet Sports lasted, what, 18 months; Stratos never really took off; we’ve had shopping channels open and close
but these were all independent of the main networks. I wonder what would have happened if the main companies went to market first, rather than relying on Govt money (TVNZ6, TVNZ7), perhaps things would be different.

I imagine +HR=E Life’s failure had more to do with Choice already having had 5+ years to become embedded (apart from the shows Three poached from them), and now they’re owned by Discovery, perhaps MediaWorks didn’t want to take them on so bluntly?

Yep, different marketplace.

Here is some of the new FTA classifications in use on TVNZ 1 & 2, Three and Duke.

Having FTA similar to film classifications is a good idea imo but the restricted descriptions shortened to 16L - M VC - 16 VC look ridiculous!

THREE’S THE BLOCK NZ POSTPONED TO 2021

MediaWorks has made the difficult decision to postpone hit show The Block NZ until 2021.

Director of TV Content, Ben Quinn, said that as we continue to fight COVID-19 it was necessary to postpone The Block NZ until next year.

“Production on The Block NZ has been on hold since the end of March following the Government’s move to Alert Level 4 lockdown. These significant time delays combined with the high level of uncertainty in the coming months for all stakeholders means we simply cannot commit to a typical production schedule.”

“While this is a difficult decision, it is the right one in order to protect our business partners and brands.

“We are making plans with The Block NZ’s partners on ways we can continue to work together this year.”

MediaWorks is planning for The Block NZ to resume production next year with the same contestants and same properties that had been prepared for the 2020 season.

The Block NZ joins Dancing with the Stars NZ in not being made or aired in 2020 due to COVID-19 and its effects.

Just cancel it.

Anyway, I just noticed that juice tv still exists
on kordia.tv just watch it on a hotel tv :joy:

Wonder how long they’ll keep The AM Show going. No idea on ratings numbers but in MediaWorks’ latest update to advertisers they mention ratings growth for their news shows including The Project, AM didn’t get a mention. TVNZ a few weeks back were highlighting gains for Bfast so that gives an idea and why Garner & Richardson are talking so much shit lately.

It’s just depressing to watch now. Nothing to do with their politics, I used to enjoy the show but way too negative now imo. Interested to hear what others think
