Interesting also the comments on news, not so keen on building something new due to the costs and doesn’t rule making a play for one of the independents like Newsroom or The Spinoff.

Interesting excerpt from that article:
How Magic Talk fits into that objective is yet to be determined, but MediaWorks is undertaking an extensive review to find an answer to that question.
“We are looking into how we move forward in that segment. It will probably be something different and it might be another station. It might be two more stations. We are still looking into how we reposition that brand.”
Looks like NZME have launched a new Alternative station on iHeartRadio. Kick. https://www.iheart.com/live/8868
If I were them I’d look to a newsradio format like in the USA. Rolling news (assuming you keep AM Show).
Headlines on the 1s (:01, :11, :21, :31, :41, :51), sport, weather and traffic. You could still do live interviews but it would fall into those brackets.
They have also launched Flava fresh for new hip hop & RnB music as well as Coast 80’s.
So guessing that means 1 news station, 1 talk station? Is that common overseas?
Surely one of their music brands would have to be cut to find the frequencies?
In London, there is a talk station (LBC) and a rolling news station (LBC News). That’s common overseas.
I’m hearing that Dom Harvey may be tipped to get the axe.
What is your source on this?
When do you fit in the ads? Maybe a 15min cycle would work better in NZ?
Would not surprise me… something strange happening BTS with their unplanned holiday last week. In saying that as much as I think he’s outgrown The Edge, he’s very good at what he does
Here in the UK, LBC News has a 20 minute cycle. Here’s an example from a few hours ago.
They add extra travel bulletins during the breakfast and drivetime programmes, and break the cycle for Prime Minister’s Questions and breaking news, but otherwise, they keep to this cycle.
One of my colleagues, who is a television newsreader.
Not long celebrated 20 years on The Edge, but maybe that’s why its time.
He would exit Mediaworks entirely then? I don’t see any clear succession plan as to where he can go to next without causing significant upheaval for another station. A relaunched More FM network breakfast possibly?
More info on the new station Kick.
maybe to the new sports station that is coming up
Tomorrow marks 17 years since Fletch and Vaughan became a radio duo after a competition to find a replacement for Alex Behan as he moved on to host a failure of a NZ version of top of the pops.
Fletch and Vaughan proof that 17 years later you can still remain relevant and not washed up and dry like Dominic Harvey.
@Rod_Van_Alphen Good things take time.
