New Zealand Radio

I’ve got back into Dom Meg & Randell this year (well, podcasts) but Edge drive show is so bland these days… not sure they made the best choice with the new guy…

Yeah, I used to be an exclusive Edge listener but lately I’ve been switching over to ZM

I only listen ZM on iHeartRadio because they don’t really have good strong frequencies where I live

ZM is one of the great radio revival stories in NZ.

Didn’t know what it was for about a decade, plodded along for years with Polly and Grant at breakfast cos they did well in Wellington and apart from Auckland for a while, nowhere else.

A million different drive shows, none of which really fired, then they lure Fletch, Vaughan and Megan over to breakfast after they realised their chances of The Edge breakfast anytime soon were over and that ignited ZM, Jase and PJ were a master stroke and then Bree and Clint latterly have also solidified the station.

The Edge now has the breakfast show that doesn’t know what it is and an ineffective drive show.

I used to listen to the Edge, back when they had Jono and Ben in the afternoons. Now though? It’s MoreFM all the way for me these days (I’m not really a new music guy).

More FM has actually done really well at re-establishing itself too, ironically by the former boss of ZM!

Absolutely! It’s a real shame The Edge never gave Ross Flahive the content director job when it came up after Leon Wratt was made Chief Content Director for Radio. ZM is doing so much better because of Ross.

More FM is huge! And an incredible effort by Christian Boston who saved the station and in the matter of months being in the CD role turned it around entirely. One of the best sounding radio stations on air right now.

Agreed on all counts - and NZME/TRN stuffed up by not moving Bosto into a CD role at The Hits/Classic Hits around that time when ZM was a bit stale as well. They had exec after exec come from Australia but The Hits still battles.

Wishful thinking from Plunket or would NZME be brave enough to employ him (again)?

Did anyone ever take over from Heather du Plessis Allan on ZB Wellington Mornings when she moved to drive? Or do they get Kerre McIvor now?

Nope, Kerre McIvor networked there now.

There have been murmurings they may look to go back local in Wellington but they would need the right person. I don’t think Plunket is it.

Yeah just remember… Sean likes to stir the pot.

yeah you’re probably right, he’s likely had an offer from Radio Schmadio…

GOLD FM or The Hits in the car as it is the only stations the car radio picks up haha (old Honda with a Japanese Radio with a half buggered converter)

At work I tend to have the speaker on ZM and when I get sick of that I change it to The Sound for a bit of a classic hits throw back.
My co Worker tends to change it to The Rock when he is there and I am not. Tho The Rock is not my vibe, to many songs I have never heard of and it gets to heavy listening to all day for 8 hours.

Spot on @medianz

Certainly not your typical talk radio sound, sounds more like a voice for More fm or the Breeze… Not sure if I like it though it was definitely time for a change.

New station voice lacks authority and gravitas that a talk/news station needs.

Yeah, and what I heard of Danny on AM show this morning, most of Peter Williams’ audience are going to switch off in a heartbeat… Radio Live 2.0 :expressionless:

Your long summer days are on T̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶r̶e̶e̶z̶e̶ Magic Talk.

what do others think of Danny & Leah on Magic?

Not…great.

They are both pretty dull and the chemistry feels a bit forced for mine. Early days though.

I know Si and Phil is a bit lightweight on ZB at the same time but they do bounce off each other well
