New Zealand Radio

New station voice lacks authority and gravitas that a talk/news station needs.

Yeah, and what I heard of Danny on AM show this morning, most of Peter Williams’ audience are going to switch off in a heartbeat… Radio Live 2.0 :expressionless:

Your long summer days are on T̶h̶e̶ ̶B̶r̶e̶e̶z̶e̶ Magic Talk.

what do others think of Danny & Leah on Magic?

Not…great.

They are both pretty dull and the chemistry feels a bit forced for mine. Early days though.

I know Si and Phil is a bit lightweight on ZB at the same time but they do bounce off each other well

Tbh I think it might have been better if they had kept Plunket and brought in someone from the left to add some balance , being a Wellingtonian too Polly Gillespie would have been interesting…

But yeah hopefully they improve, it feels verrry PC. And like it’s only a matter of time before Peter Williams is given his marching orders.

Looking forward to Graeme Hill though… Not sure if it has been said here but seems Nights is going to be 7-10pm instead of 11

Bit late to the post but I myself grew up with the edge thinking it was the shit, now I think of it as nothing but shit.

ZM is not available in my town but daily at work I listen to the fvm podcast, those guys are the tits especially with Hayley Sproull.

Didn’t like Clint much at the edge but he seems to work very well with Bree.

The other guys are alright but by far ZM is the superior of the two stations with their talent and imaging.

The edge is just so lost. Dom Meg and Randall yawwwwwn, Sharon is dull as f*** has no comedic value yet tries so hard. Jayden meh. Sean meh. Bring back Marty and Steph on nights again, I know Marty has an off air role now but those two were my favourites out of any station after FVM left the edge.

Other than ZM my go to station is The Breeze or More Fm :joy:

Really The Edge should just let Meg, Dom, and Randall go already. They’ve been doing the same shtick for years now. Same with Sharon. It’s time for a complete clean sweep of the lineup.

I am listening to 702 AM Magic Talk via the KiwiSDR browser. I can hear the static from thunderstorms in that area. Does it suffer any co-channel interference? My feed is all good, no sign of any issues. ABC Local radio 702 AM is a real powerhouse here in Sydney.

I know for example in Sydney 630 AM Newsradio does suffers interference from ABC Townsville even within the Sydney Basin once the sunsets.

Yes, it can suffer interference from the ABC 702 AM frequency in the evenings I believe.

I’m currently listening to NewsTalk ZB and their coverage of the tsunami situation. Isn’t there some sort of warning sound that’s used for formal announcements? So far, all information has been mixed in with phone calls.

There is a CD alert sound. Radio Stations are (or should be) frequently reminded not to play it unless a Civil Defense emergency has been declared. A Tsunami Warning, as important as it is, doesn’t fit within that situation.

Here is what it sounds like

There was a drill where if was used a few years back

You’re taking the piss! Especially given that tsunami warnings have just been re-issue, surely it’d make sense to have some form of alert sound to make any warnings clearer.

Mostly all MediaWorks stations in Northland are simulcasting More FM Northland 91.6 to bring latest updates from the earthquake/tsunami warning

Are you thinking of this alert sound? (Which is used for TEXT alerts) the ones posted above I believe are still used on radio (Could be wrong)

My phone went off with this siren about 30 times yesterday with tsunami alerts… for some reason I got the cancellation one about 20 times thought the afternoon and evening.

Tsunami Siren Blares After 8.1 Earthquake Strikes off the New Zealand Coast
You will need to turn your volume to near max to hear it

You’re talking about something different. That’s just a tsunami siren.

Others were talking about the Civil Defence emergency siren which is used by media for any CD emergency, flooding, volcanic eruption etc
