Jono and Ben also did a V special
Never seen those ones before - but I probably wouldnât have eaten that flavour anyway ![]()
Long time reader, first time contributor in a long time.
Good decision, 567 is a great signal, need more like it in NZ. Never heard 1116 at night in Australia over co channeled stations in Melbourne or Brisbane.
Are Stoke/Nelson residents happy with the FM coverage and that of 567?
They will be .
So to merge was going to cost rather than save?
Thatâs a mind blowingly poorly planned idea then.
Just read, made for outstanding lunchtime reading. Well compiled, edited and written @HUFF
Not in the long-term. It was more of a case of priorities, and right then, the media was the last of any voters worries.
Most media content is from Auckland. More should be from Wellington and South Island.
@TV4âs joke about Dunedin is spot on, very amusing and true.
Ok, not sure why we are going back 7 months but regardless - perhaps true a decade ago, not sure much now through advances of tech etc.
RNZ needed to shake its Wellington bias - and still does.
That may be true, but itâs not a shame. Listening in market twice in five months, I found the station of a high quality and refreshingly low clutter.
Goldilocks blend of ABC local radio and Radio National. Very impressed with RNZ and often stream from the West Island.
Yes, the shortwave reaches Australia very well, local station strength deep into northern outback SA.
Hopefully Dallas has a laugh at RNZâ description of being a former media executive. Whether you own a licence in a country region or lead national business units of radio stations; you are a media executive.
Timaruâs finest. The local New World is quite proud, nice display when visiting last year.
I doubt there is any bias. I think itâs purely perception because RNZ National is essentially the only wide-reach networked offering that isnât entirely based in Auckland.
Think of it this way, if there were a commercial network offering ZB type content backed by the Left, people would naturally think of that as left-biased (like they see ZB as right-biased). In which case, RNZ National might suddenly be perceived to be more balanced.
What they really need to do (and all nationwide media organisations), is to ensure they listen to voices from outside of Auckland. Otherwise theyâll build an echo-chamber that only reflects Auckland, and trust me, not everyone in the provinces wants to hear about the Blues.
Also, not everyone reads every thread every day. I binge-read threads as well as follow some each day (and others I do somewhere in between). Dose Discourse not give data on how people read these threads? Seems like a failing if so.
Appreciate all the likes, @crankymedia
I agree with this and thatâs essentially what I meant, it became a very Wellington-lens on the country and I think being so close to the beltway doesnât help them as they get bogged down in political minutiae that isnât interesting or making waves in the rest of the country, while Wellington has a very lefty, bohemian sort of vibe that also doesnât reflect the rest of the country - I think itâs important to reflect Wellington as part of RNZ but I think Wellington has for a while dictated RNZâs outlook and presentation at the expense of its listeners elsewhere in the country.
Auckland lens is exactly the same, as you say. Things like the Warriors/Blues are amplified because theyâre there, we hear more about K Rd and Queen St than Iâd ever want to know about if I was not living in the region.
Part of that is unavoidable given the economies of scale we lack in NZ, network broadcasts are going to be more friendly financially and doing from a major centre makes sense. But thereâs no reason RNZ couldnât decide to mandate that its afternoons show came out of the South Island for example.
ZB at one point had afternoons and nights coming out of the South Island before Si and James finished up. And while theyâre a different beast to RNZ, the different perspectives are important.
Also, have no major issue with the late replies it was just interesting to see them responded to as if it was realtime.
Radio Hauraki is in line for a music overhaul in its playlist.
Could you please explain more , is hauraki still going with rock or something else & when is the changes happening Thank-you.
No, because the production companies wanted to keep forcing reality TV down viewers throats, and felt threatened that we were going to have current affairs and documentaties on TV1 instead.
iHeartCountry NZ is hiring announcers. Good to see some investment in this brand considering the number of country artists adding NZ to their tours.
Are they trying to compete with the rock??
