I really don’t know what direction hauraki are going for but a change away from rock music is really

what hauraki needs to get any decent ratings.

A Triple M Perth music-format might be a good option for them. A bit of mainstream and alternative rock with some Dance and R&B thrown in.

Hopefully they didn’t forget about the Hauraki ‘Amped’ era. Closest attempt at matching The Rock, didn’t go well.

hauraki-amped

Maybe Hauraki could try changing their format to the one Gold used to have? It’s not like Gold is playing a classic rock format anymore.

I didn’t really listen to Hauraki after they changed their format in 2010 - a former colleague said he really liked their mix of classic rock (compared to what The Rock was like at the time) however he said after it changed he lost interest in listening to it.

The days when hauraki had nik trott on air were good and they went toe to toe

Nick Trott was on The Rock, wasn’t he? Or did he move to Hauraki later?

Also - radio related (although not specifically NZ):

Man I don’t think any hosts in this country make salaries like that, not even Hosking :open_mouth:

Moved to Hauraki, did breakfast for a few years (The Hauraki Amped years) with Deano and Mel. (Dean Young and Mel Homer).
They replaced the Morning Pirates then themselves got axed maybe 2 years in.

That’s right, that rings a bell, thanks. I have a feeling later on Nick moved to More FM Waikato but didn’t really fit in there so got let go? Not sure what he does these days but I don’t think it’s radio anymore.

Yes nik trott did hauraki breakfast
.i think he used to commute from Hamilton to auckland each day to do the show?

Shifted to More FM after The Rock.

Possibly the reason why he left The Rock as I think he remained Hamilton based when it shifted to Auckland.

This hss failed big time the big egos and huge $$ they commanded led to disaster i doubt that they will survive this

As for nz i doubt we would hsve anyone close to that earning potential or power
I doubt the radio market here is big enough with the 2 players struggling already

Sorry, let me make sure I have the chronology right here…
The Rock - it moved from Hamilton to Auckland so he commuted? Then went onto…
Hauraki - also Auckland-based, finally…
More FM Waikato - where he only lasted for a short time.

Have I got that right? (I thought this was the timeline but happy to be corrected).

The Rock > More FM > Hauraki. According to this article he was at More FM from 2006-2008 before being axed from the station, moved back to Hamilton for that role.

From what I’ve seen I think he’s gone a bit off the rails in the last few years.

The Hits has a new Formula 1 podcast hosted by Megan Papas and Anthony Capaldi (Lewis Capaldi’s brother)

Does anyone kniw why ZM northland has been taken off air? Seeing a bit of talk about it and wonder why

Something to do with a very odd post they sent last week.

I don’t know what the backstory is either.

Until proven otherwise, just assume that it’s off for good.

Maybe don’t assume that.

It looks like 531pi is taking over the old Kiwi FM frequency 102.2FM in Auckland later this month. I guess this really marks the end of any Youth Radio Network. I always thought the old RNZ Tahi would take that frequency.

Good, hopefully that clears up the 102 & 103 bandwidth nationwide for more stations
