Cabinet has agreed to extend all current AM and FM licenses for a further 20 years past the current expiry date of 2031. In addition, licenses that were previously set aside for the proposed youth network are to be sold.

Labour should have set up the youth network when it had the chance, because those 102 frequencies will probably end up with the NZME/Mediaworks duopoly, broadcasting some generic network. Not too say the youth network would be any better though, but still..

Great so more of the same and nothing different

I see local commercial frequencies are also being phased out to becoming either full commercial or community licenses. Paves the way for Mediaworks in Christchurch to ditch the Anthemz name and local requirements in favour of Channel X.

Speaking of Channel X, I remember their test transmissions from early May 2023 on the ex-Today FM frequencies (which is sadly now lost forever because the Radio Vault shut down, and no one else uploaded it (There is a 1 minute clip of it on a launch video, but that’s about it),

Read a piece that said nzme were launching an investigation into workplace culture

Final reveal of this comp took place this afternoon. No the winner didn’t get the million dollar prize. But it was quiet interesting that the initial promotion involved 5 contestants and a beach dig for the winner. Instead it was an in studio reveal with envelopes on a board. Possibly altered in light of of recent events in Tauranga?

BayPlay, a dedicated mobile app from Media Bay of Plenty (the Eastern Bay of Plenty’s premier multimedia company, delivering radio, digital and community services across the region), was launched recently and serves as a complement to iHeartRadio and rova.

Based in Whakatane (where Media Bay of Plenty is headquartered), the new app plays host to Radio 1XX, Bayrock and Q97 which are now available to be live streamed at any time. It can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store (as per the snapshot provided) or Google Play.

Right call if so.

Seems like Gold Sport might be simulcasting iHeartCountry NZ (listening via Auckland feed).

I mentioned this already in December  I was quite sad about it, I really liked Gold’s rock format. Country isn’t my thing - in fact I wonder why they still call it Gold, come to think of it?
