New Zealand Radio

I can’t stand Plunket either but I’d rather him than the nasty “Reality Check” “Radio” (quotes as it’s not really radio - more like a conspiracy theory podcast IMO).

Having said that, how is Today FM’s replacement Channel X doing? I listen in from time to time.

I like your idea there Patrick of a possible replacement, but I hasten to add that Today FM had a lot of big names on it already (Tova, Duncan, etc) and still didn’t work, sadly

Speaking of Today FM, Wilhelmina Shrimpton hosting 9-12 on ZB today.

I listen sometimes (via the app) and hear next to no ads besides for rova. I think I heard an ad for a bookshop once…

Global in the UK have done very well with their podcasts. The News Agents is particularly popular (and IMO particularly good). Hosted by three well-known and accomplished journalists. They do some really good reports and interviews, mixed in with news chatter (though there is a slight centre-left/liberal bias which will probably put some off). Good show, anyway.

That probably would’ve been a local ad. Seems like advertising on Channel X is limited to that and other Mediaworks promotions.

Today FM reunion today.

Theyre trying to go up against Brian FM. Im interested in why they didnt go for putting Mai or George properly nationwide? More commercial stations, more ads to sell/fill, more money for MW. Would that not be the case?

Both niche markets would be my guess, whereas Channel X has a wider appeal.
Good to see that someone is still recording radio stuff re the Today video above.

Which reminds me - did anyone ever find out what happened to The Radio Vault, or has there been nothing? Must say I’m disappointed, I thought that site was quite valuable.

Some of the frequencies were turned over to some of their other national brands, for example, Whanganui got Mai FM back on 96.0 (after they swapped it for Magic Talk five-ish years earlier).

I think with the exception of Whanganui (which can receive Manawatū stations to varying levels of clarity), they launched channelX into all markets (or Anthemz in the case of CHCH) that already had the MW staples Edge, Rock & Breeze.

(My speculation is) it sounded like they had planned to launch a new station like this before they pulled the plug on Today. Be interesting to see the listener statistics in August.

Wonder why Sharyn & Steph with Sean, I didn’t know they were such an iconic duo lol

And wasn’t Chris Parker supposed to be joining that show too?

Leah Panapa, formerly of MediaWorks’ Magic Talk and Today FM, is set to join The Platform as host of the new 4-6pm slot.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Nah joking, I like Leah. Her and Mark were a very good listen on Today FM.

Panapa is a hard right wing reactionary who is completely devoted to ACT. Not suprising.

Remember her on the rock with roger farrelly then moved to the sound with nik and mark richardson

How many people actuality listen to the plstform??

@Michael_Eccles Yasmina Coe, or Yas as she’s also known, is new to the radio industry and takes over from Sean Hill as host of The Edge’s daytime slot (10am-3pm).

@nztv Steph Monks’ departure from The Edge will be announced in due course. (You can correct me if I am wrong, as this information may be incorrect at the time of writing and I am a little bit delusional because I have autism.)

If you ask Plunket, probably heaps and heaps. But I don’t think they’ve ever released the number of listeners to their stream, have they?

I know “Reality Check” “Radio” (lol) claims “hundreds of thousands” of listeners to their stream but I don’t believe that figure, given the people that appear on there and the content they promote - some of which is absolutely appalling (and hideous). It appeals to a very, very narrow audience with a limited ceiling - I don’t know anyone that listens to it.
