Thanks for the update, @Michael_Eccles. While Sean fills in for Steph, Yasmina Coe (or Yas as she’s also known), who is new to the radio game, takes over as The Edge’s daytime slot (10am-3pm) as I wrote earlier.
The YouTube channel has about 45k subscribers. That’s interesting in itself because if you look at the individual videos, the ones with Sean Plunket sounding off about politics tend to have a few thousand views each (sometimes a lot more)… whereas excerpts from Martin Devlin’s sport show get several hundred at best. Of course there is also the bot factor…

Yes it seems certain content attracts higher listener numbers whereas other content has quite low engagement.
I imagine it’s a similar story for the “Reality” lot - and I would hazard a guess their numbers are probably less, as I daresay they’d be eating into Plunket’s audience.
Bit disappointing to see Leah go that direction though, I had no idea she was that way politically inclined. Mind you though, I imagine she still has bills to pay (as the rest of us do).
Where are they touring?
auckland and christchurch
The support this convicted criminal continues to receive, especially withing the industry I just find so strange. All for second chances but money laundering for gangs isn’t something you accidentally get caught up in.
Mediaworks produced do we reckon? No rova mention…
Nice branding tho. Do Spotify do / pay for original podcasts in a market the size of NZ ? Kinda seems like this is one…
Quite a few of the RCR listeners think Plunket is woke(!!!) because he’s pro-vax.
I think there were a few tells back in the Today FM days (her comments about trans/non-binary people).

I didn’t actually know that he was, that’s interesting.
In any case, I think that any audience for the likes of the Reality thing will be extremely narrow and it would have a rather low ceiling- they will never, ever get everyone on board with them, even a decent segment of the general public.
Yes, people don’t like Hosking but there are other things on ZB outside of his show that probably appeal. Whereas the Reality crowd seem to be all about culture wars, anti-vaxx, anti-government, blah blah blah. I know that will only appeal to a small segment of the population.
It’s actually quite funny because from what I’ve seen, he’s called out anti-vaxxers multiple times… and they just happen to be the majority of his comment section! Just look at the comments below this recent video… you have to laugh or you would cry!
I try to avoid comments sections as much as possible - things can get awfully toxic in there sometimes
Reality Check Radio has ended its broadcasts, with Peter Williams stating in a video “Hopefully it’s just a temporary closure. The only way we’re going to get back on air is by raising funds now.”
Well isn’t that a bit spooky considering how we’ve been talking about them the last few days.
No big loss anyway.
Go woke, go broke I guess.
@OnAir I have autism and try not to be rude, but I’m unsure about the meaning of ‘go woke, go broke’. Does it mean there should be less news and talk and more music and entertainment?
Just a joke, Paddy.
This is unbelievable, there were so many comments yesterday regarding the trust of the media survey yesterday saying how Reality Check was the outlet they trust and rely on the most, how can it be financially unsustainable with so many hardcore fans
No doubt the people who were celebrating the potential demise of Newshub, the closure of Today FM and the cuts at TVNZ will be in total denial of this decision today.
