@Reece When Mark Leishman left The Breeze to move to Magic, Mike Puru took over as host of The Breeze’s Sunday night ‘all country’ slot. It was known as Breeze Country.

The ‘station’ is still going. He must have decided that becoming a glorified podcast streamer wasnt a wise career move.

Had a sample listen and he is still on there for now i guess

Seems the former Today FM studios are being used as a podcast space.

What was on those frequencies prior to ZM?

(Gradually catching up with this thread, 2500 posts to go)

Pulling this one out of the memory vault… 89.9 Greymouth and 91.7 Westport were both Radio Sport prior to the 2020 changes.

Wait until you scroll down to the launch and demise of Today FM about two years later… haha

Can’t remember so few end of year changes for a while… aside from The Hits, seems mostly BAU going into 2024…

Very true, I guess Leon Wratt expended most of Mediaworks energy on the closure of Today FM leaving little at the end of the year for them.

Bree’s Christmas Chaos for ZM breakfast this week with Bree and Eli Matthewson.

Used up all her annual leave so an extra week on air I guess

Interesting. And Eli was on The Edge not so long ago.

I think its a revolving door of people with Bree, Laura Daniel is in tomorrow. But definitely good to have a bit of effort for another week.

Yes, filled in a few times on ZM drive this year.

Time to refresh and recharge

Gary McCormick has finished at Magic. He was there just four months.

Incredibly odd stint.

Was it just to make him work to the end of his contract or was it a trial to see if it worked?

Never felt right for the Magic audience.

I thought him and Mark kind of found their groove but yeah it was a… different… listen for Magic. Is Mark staying?

What i heard of gary on magic i thought he added a bit of his sense of humour to the show but maybe they want to focus more on the music and less of the brekky banter

Anyone got the word on what has gone on with More FM Southland’s breakfast?

Steve Broad and Jo Cotton have left and the workdays announcer has taken over. Redundancies?

@OnAir Simon used to host a local daytime show on More FM Southland and took over as the sole breakfast host since the departure of Steve and Jo.

After Simon’s departure from the daytime slot to breakfast, a new host will step in to fill the local daytime spot on More FM Southland until 3pm when Jay-Jay and Flynny take over the airwaves.

From my understanding a lot of well-known media personalities, particularly radio, have come and gone.

The combination of Gary McCormick and Mark McCarron as co-hosts on Magic’s revamped breakfast show, McCormick & McCarron, received a negative response from the Magic audience. It was highly advisable to revert back to the ‘less talk, more music’ format.

Some of the facts contained in this post (at the time of writing) may be a little bit delusional. As always, correct me if I’m wrong.

Joe wasn’t in Southland very long was she? I wonder what happened - I seem to recall seeing a post from her on somewhere (maybe Facebook) not that long ago saying how excited she was to be moving down south, but I can’t find it now.
So what’s she going to do next? Back to More FM nights in Auckland?

Also I never heard Gary McCormick so no idea if he was any good or not, but man that’s one short tenure. He’s still visible on their website if you look in the right place (although I note that the Shows header has been removed from the top of the page):

Haven’t heard too much in the way of redundancies but it was indeed awfully quick, I didn’t even know they were leaving until their last show on Friday. With that council job, Steve will be sticking around in Invers anyway so don’t completely count him out yet.

Simon may just be a temporary host to see the year out, don’t think they’ll have a single host on mornings for long.
