It’s goodbye to The Hits and hello to Hokonui on 90.4FM in Te Anau today.

Speaking of The Hits, I’m hearing murmurs of some 2023 changes…

  • Estelle to leave the night show, replaced by news reader Lee Plummer

  • Megan Papas to host both the Auckland and Network 9AM - 3PM show

  • 3PM pickup to be dropped

More Edge changes coming to 2023:

  • Edge Breakfast will have a shake up with Clint returning to the station with Meg and Dan joining the morning show as he’ll leave the producer role for the afternoon show. Eli Matthewson who joined at the start of 2022 won’t be part of the show next year but will be “part-time” working.

  • Afternoon show will be changed too with Jayden’s departure announced this week. Edge Afternoons will still have Sharyn but Nickson (Breakfast) and Steph (Morning newsreader/workday host) will join.

  • Soph will still present the workday show 10am-3pm; Sean still has his “Nights” duties 7pm-midnight.

Jury is out but it really does feel like The Edge is still playing catch up for losing Fletch and Vaughan nearly a decade ago, which was obviously their long-term breakfast plan.

Cycling through drive line-ups (and now breakfast) like ZM used to do - and it would be a very long list of ZM drive shows.

I actually think they’re all super talented broadcasters but not sure the combos will work.

Seems rough on Robert Scott, although his show has always seemed slightly cheesy.

Sarah van der Kley’s stocks have risen very quickly.

Both decent line ups on The Edge for next year, but drive seems to be the stronger show for me, which usually isn’t the case for station

I hope Mai FM management have some other long term plan with all of these changes, because what else could it be besides cost cutting

wondered how long heather would stay at the sound while
she also did weather

@OnAir Looks like there will be a change in on-air talent at MediaWorks in 2023.

Paul Ego to replace Gary McCormick on The Breakfast Club. McCormick moves to Today FM in April.

More FM
With Gary McCormick making the move to Today FM in April and More FM’s Breakfast Club broadcasts from its home in Christchurch, his replacement Paul Ego is largely based in Auckland and will make a welcome return to radio next year.

Robert Scott shifts from drive to 10-3pm workday in 2023, with Sarah van der Kley switching to drive.

The Breeze
Award-winning radio personality Robert Scott has been hosting The Breeze’s drive show (3-7pm) since Mark Leishman made the move to MediaWorks’ new radio brand, Magic, in 2015. After eight years, Robert will move to the daytime slot (10am-3pm) and swap places with current daytime host Sarah van der Kley, who replaced Ali Leonard earlier this year and will host the drivetime slot next year.

Clint Randell, Meg Mansell, Dan Webby to host The Edge Breakfast - Nickson Clark, Sharyn Casey & Steph Monks team up for Afternoons.

The Edge
After a year-long absence Clint Randell will return to The Edge and its breakfast show (6-10am) next year, and Nickson Clark will make the switch from breakfast to The Edge’s drive show (3-7pm). Meg Mansell, Sean Hill, Sharyn Casey, Sophie Nathan and Steph Monks will also be back, with Dan Webby transferring from drive to breakfast as its new co-host (replacing Eli Matthewson).

Storme Hitaua joins Mai from Flava - to host Mai Home Run with Randy Sjafrie. Fame Teu moves from drive to the Mai Morning Crew.

Mai
With Jordan River and Brook Ruscoe now left, current Mai Home Run host Fame Teu will switch to the Mai Morning Crew (breakfast) with co-host Tegan Yorwarth next year. Storme Hitaua (transferred from NZME) will switch from Flava to Mai, and join forces with current Mai Nights host Randy Sjafrie as the new co-hosts of Mai Home Run (drive).

Georgia Cubbon joins MediaWorks from NZME’s Gold FM - taking the reins from Heather Keats who is going to concentrate fully on her Newshub 6pm weather presenting role.

The Sound
Heather Keats will transition from radio to television by presenting the weather on Newshub’s 6pm bulletin fulltime. Georgia Cubbon (transferred from NZME) will replace Heather as The Sound’s daytime host (10am-2pm) next year.

Just yet, there are no changes at The Rock and George FM, although the new hosts at Magic for 2023 are to be confirmed… I think.

@radio Hrm. Where is Estelle Clifford (current nights host on The Hits) heading to?

She’s being made redundant

Mai FM Wellington. Breakfast is #3 in the market, and drive getting close to 8.0 share. But absolutely plummets during the day

Its the last day for nearly all Aussie radio shows, when does NZ usual wrap up for the year?

They depend, most the Friday the week before Christmas from experience. So the 16th.
