@OnAir @theGradyConnell Despite the fact Geoff Bryan had left Magic Breakfast (with Mark Leishman) recently to take up a new role at Today FM, a promotional image of Mark and Geoff is still shown on Magic’s website.

Interesting to see that ZM has taken over some of the GOLD frequencies in the Coromandel. Note this a different GOLD station from the one inside the NZME stable.

Seems that NZME has bought out Gold FM, the livestream on their website is now streaming ZM as well.

Gold FM’s frequencies are now all licensed to NZME in the Register Of Radio Frequencies. So that’s another local community radio station down the tube. What a shame.

MediaWorks has announced its new talk station Today FM will launch in Auckland on 90.2 FM.
It will see The Rock move from 90.2 FM to 106.2 FM in Tāmaki Makaurau. The Rock will move to 106.2 FM from 1 January 2022. It will be simulcast on both frequencies until the launch of Today FM.
The Rock is launching a campaign across radio, digital and out-of-home to let listeners know about the
frequency move in Auckland. This will include a competition giving away $106.20 on air every hour from the end of January.
The Rock Content Director Brad King says, “We’ll move anywhere we can make more noise! 106.2 FM is neighbour free so we can crank everything up louder - and we all know rock is designed to be played at full noise!”
In addition to Auckland, Today FM will broadcast on FM frequencies throughout the country, including
the new frequency of 95.3 FM in Canterbury. MediaWorks Director of News & Talk Dallas Gurney says it’s exciting to launch Today FM on FM frequencies throughout Aotearoa, including 90.2 FM in Auckland and on a new FM frequency in Canterbury.
“We have a stellar lineup for Today FM and a fantastic team behind them with everyone busy gearing up to launch our fresh, new station next year. We are working to create a station that represents New
Zealand today - the countdown is on!”

The frequencies for Today FM throughout New Zealand are as follows:

Nelson - 96 FM
Whangārei - 90.8 FM

As predicted by yours truly

Magic Talk currently broadcasts on 94.9FM in Gisborne, however I am not seeing that frequency on the Today FM frequency list.

Also, it looks like Taupo and Taranaki will be going without Today FM. Magic Talk was dropped in both of those markets some time ago, in favour of Magic Music. I had wondered if they’d reverse that decision for Today FM’s launch, but apparently not.

The 95.3 frequency in Christchurch is currently the home to Mai FM.

Not for much longer! I guess they chose to sacrifice their least profitable brand in that market.

Whats happening with 1107AM that Magic Talk is currently on in Tauranga/ Bay Of Plenty??

I imagine that it will continue simulcasting whatever is on 100.6FM, ie Today FM. None of the existing Magic Talk AM frequencies (Auckland, Rotorua, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Christchurch etc) are mentioned in the above list but I imagine that Today FM will simulcast on AM and FM in those markets, just as Newstalk ZB does in many markets.

Through an oversight, MediaWorks forgot to make Today FM available on 94.9FM in Gisborne.

Either that or they plan to flip it to Magic Music as they have done previously in Taupo and Taranaki. There is currently no Magic Music station in Gisborne.

@anon36025973 Or in Whakatane (and the Eastern Bay of Plenty). There is currently no Magic frequency in the Eastern Bay as listeners there get their Magic music on its website or the rova app.

I have been listening to Magic’s music in recent times as one of its loyal listeners.

So Today FM launch end of Jan then?

Stealing these assets and creating another layer of governance and red tape to manage them is not going to fix them.

https://www.magic.co.nz/home/news/2021/12/lloyd-burr---three-waters--means-fewer-poo-namis--and-more-swimm.html

Councils have been complacent for too long - and I hope when Three Waters comes off the shelf next year at Parliament, Kiwis realise it’s a good move.
It’ll mean fewer poo-namis, and more swimming at the beaches we love.

Right so is this what Gurney means when he says the new station fair, objective etc … Flip flopping after a couple weeks to provide balance?

Randall from The Edge Breakfast leaving, replaced by Nickson from Mai FM.

Wow, do you where is Randell headed?

Strange move… thought they’d go for someone younger rather than older

@nztv @medianz @OnAir Oh Lord - so many departures!

After all those years on Mai, Nickson Clark is jumping ship to The Edge (replacing Clint Randell on breakfast).

This feels like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The Mai Morning Crew have been humming recently - Nickson is a top quality talent. Blowing up the Edge Brekky would have been best imho.

@OnAir And who’s going to replace Nickson on the Mai Morning Crew?
