Wonder whether Matt got offered the roving reporter gig on TVNZ Breakfast after joining More and just decided radio wasn’t for him…
Good result all round though with Adam joining More fm

My money is on The Sound moving freq as it rated poorly in the latest commercial survey results and targets the same demo as ZB so will never compete.
Personally, I don’t think they’ll move The Sound. The Sound transmits on 93.8 in Auckland, which is closely sandwiched between The Breeze 93.4 and The Edge 94.2. The Sound also broadcasts on 93.8 in Waikato and for this reason, I believe the Auckland frequency operates at a lower power than other Skytower stations. Also, because of the overlap of the two markets, I don’t think it would be possible to have two different brands operating on the same frequency in both Auckland and Waikato.
Can anyone explain what the thinking is here … not even a seasoned pro like Kerre could make him look good.
Does Tova even need a co - host? Unless it is to add balance to her left leaning I don’t see the point. And Mark will not do that. Are they trying to create radio version of The Project?
Tova O’Brien is many things, but ‘left wing’ (or right wing) is not one of them.
Alex King (Mike King’s daughter) leaving Mai FM
My journey at Mai has come to an end and I feel so grateful to have had such an incredible run
I’m absolutely heartbroken it’s over but so excited and ready for this new chapter in my life.
May not be the case here but MediaWorks’ vaccine mandate seems to be weeding out a few. Jen from The Rock for one who left a couple of weeks ago… Mike King’s son Nathan aka Dirty Sesh is a well known anti vaxxer
I think Jen is moving to Christchurch but I might be wrong. Doesn’t mean it’s unconnected I guess.
Yeah moving to chch but have heard that was a result of Mw vax requirement across all their buildings
Her remaining social media presence is evidence of her stance on things. I’m surprised she didn’t land a gig on Magic Talk.
She is a good music jock so its a shame it has come to this but there we go. Remember she used to be Clark Gayford’s newsreader and contributor when he did drive on More FM.
Wow, it definitely sounds like she was pushed. I hear that Jordan they’ve got on the breakfast show pushes anti-vaxx rhetoric.
Does the More FM breakfast club still try to keep quiet on-air that they broadcast out of Christchurch?
Yes, @Brownshoes. Whereas More FM’s network programmes are produced out of Auckland, “The Breakfast Club” is based in Christchurch.
Flava’s Athena Angelou has announced her departure. Looks like she’s left immediately.
What?! Does that mean Athena is jumping ship to Mai FM (replacing Alex King as part of the Mai Home Run)?
I know that. I’m asking whether the shows hosts still regularly refrain from naming Christchurch suburbs/landmarks when sharing personal stories?
Because this doesn’t usually happen on other national shows that are mostly based in Auckland. The one big show not in Auckland, changing to cater for Aucklanders, when all the other shows don’t for the rest of the country.
No, they try to keep it somewhat generic. You simply cannot alienate the Auckland audience by mentioning they broadcast from a different city They actually broadcast local voice breaks for Canterbury from 9am until 10am so they ham up the localism then to keep the local audience happy.
Perhaps its a Christian Boston thing, Polly and Grant never made reference to Wellington either and quickly diverted away from the topic if it was mentioned by callers. Fletch, Vaughn, and Megan make mention that they are in Auckland often as does every other Auckland based show. Marcus Lush makes no secret he broadcasts from Invercargill.
I’m picking Kara Rickard to replace her…
Funny if Alex ends up back at Flava though.
The Sound Drive host leaving
With Dave White (host of The Sound’s drive show) out of the airwaves before Christmas, The Sound’s permanent on-air hosts will be reduced to just three: Nik Brown, Heather Keats and Nathan Muller. Weekends and fill-ins are usually provided by Bob Gentil and Mark Smith (from Magic).
The Sound will be celebrating 10 years on air in 2022, but what’s going to happen next year when MediaWorks launches a new talk radio network - Today FM? @nztv @OnAir
