MEDIAWORKS WELCOMES POLLY GILLESPIE, MARK RICHARDSON, WILHELMINA SHRIMPTON & ROBETT HOLLIS

MediaWorks is pleased to announce Polly Gillespie, Mark Richardson, Wilhelmina Shrimpton and Robett Hollis will join its new talk brand in 2022.
Polly Gillespie has worked in radio for more than 30 years, including as co-host of ZM’s breakfast show for more than two decades. She also recently released the book ‘The Misadventures of Polly Gillespie’. She says, “I can’t wait to get back into radio! I love speaking with all sorts of other people about their life experiences, thoughts and feelings. My show is going to be quite a bit different from traditional New Zealand radio. Very personal. I am truly looking forward to getting stuck in and connecting with listeners again.”
Mark Richardson will join MediaWorks after five years on The AM Show. He says, “I’m really excited to get behind the mic at MediaWorks on this new station. Nothing beats the fast-paced nature of live radio and I’m proud to be joining the impressive team assembled to date.”
Wilhelmina Shrimpton started her journalism career more than a decade ago at TVNZ, before becoming a radio journalist. She then spent years in the field reporting for Newshub’s 6pm bulletin on Three, and most recently presented the channel’s late news show. She’s also the creator and host of podcast series ‘The Pivot’.
She says, “I’m absolutely thrilled to make a return to radio alongside a hugely talented team, and can’t wait to inject my passion for storytelling into this brilliant new platform.”
Robett Hollis is a multi-exit entrepreneur and ex-professional snowboarder. He was ranked by LinkedIn as one of the Top 3 Most Influential New Zealanders, is a NZ Hi-Tech Awards Judge and was named in Metro Magazine’s Top 10 Innovators of The Year. He says, “I believe New Zealand wins when New Zealanders win so am excited to get behind this new platform to help take on our tall poppy syndrome and have a bunch of fun along the way.”
MediaWorks Director of News & Talk Dallas Gurney says, “I’m thrilled to have Polly, Mark, Wilhelmina and Robett join us as we look to do something a little different with news and talk in 2022.”
More details on the lineup for MediaWorks’ new talk station will be shared in the coming weeks.

Wow, Mediaworks is definitely onto something here.

Tova O’Brien, Duncan Garner, Rachel Smalley, Polly Gillespie, Mark Richardson, Lloyd Burr and Wilhelmina Shrimpton - that’s a strong lineup already. Don’t know who Robett is??

But apart from Tova and Lloyd, I wonder where everyone fits? Polly on weekends? Mark hosting weekend sports show?

it will be good to see how it compares to NewsTalkZB

A station without a name but many talents hired before going to air, seems to be a week of Media News

All down to personal taste though. I am a fan of Polly, I am yet to get the hype over Jay-Jay Feeney though.

Oh totally, but just from a ratings perspective. It all started to fall apart in the mid-2000s for Polly and Grant.

I don’t imagine Polly is in a primetime slot. I’d also heard Brett McGregor was being sought for a weekend lifestyle show.

I reckon so too. It gives the hosts someone else to bounce with, other than dreary deadbeat callers. In theory, it should make their offer more dynamic than ZB.

@medianz Robett Hollis is a multi-exit entrepreneur and ex-professional snowboarder, as mentioned by MediaWorks. He is new to the radio industry.

Safe to say Polly Gillespie is getting Nights on MediaWorks’ new talk back?

Hiring producer for Nights “This role is based at the MediaWorks Wellington studios”

I’m picking

Early Breakfast - Wilhelmina
Breakfast - Tova
Mornings - Duncan & Rachel
Afternoons - Mark & Leah
Drive - Lloyd
Nights - Polly

“One thing The AM Show did was light a fire in me when it comes to news and current events broadcasting. So that’s the resume I’m looking to build,” says the dad-of-two.

“When I was doing sports radio, people would just want me to get on and growl at the Black Caps, which is fine, but growling at politicians who are trying to avoid being held accountable I found refreshing and more interesting!”

News and current events rather than sports show then

Reckon a two-headed afternoon show or breakfast again.

@OnAir Does that mean most of the daytime shows (i.e. breakfast, morning, afternoon and drive) will be double-headed?

I reckon there will also be a separate midday or 11am show.

@OnAir @nztv @medianz With Magic Talk disappearing from the airwaves next year, what is going to happen to the Magic network as a whole?

Magic has been on air for six years and played ‘the greatest hits of all time’ since it launched in 2015. In recent times, I’ve been listening to Magic’s music as one of its loyal listeners.
