I don’t imagine anything will change with Magic Music. It will stay, surely.
They’ll probably just rename it back to Magic, because there’ll be no point differentiating between what’s Magic Music and Magic Talk anymore once the new talk station arrives.
Yeah I’m guessing they might shift some of Magic’s frequencies back to AM to give the new talk more of a chance but that’ll probably be about it. I’m sure the Mw still value the Magic brand and not having Magic talk controversy around it will probably only strengthen it.
@nztv Magic’s frequencies in Auckland (100.6FM) and Christchurch (99.3FM) may be unchanged as listeners in those cities will continue to get their Magic music on FM. However, frequencies for the new talk brand are yet to be announced by MediaWorks, so watch this space.
My take on the new MW talk radio schedule from rumours I’ve heard.
5am - 6am: Wilhelmina Shrimpton
6am - 9am: Tova O’Brien
9am - 12pm: Duncan Garner & Mark Richardson

12pm - 1pm: Rachel Smalley
1pm - 4pm: Leah Panapa
4pm - 6pm: Lloyd Burr
6pm - 7pm: Robett Hollis
7pm - 10pm: Polly Gillespie
10pm - 12am: ???
12am - 5am: Overnights
Weekends:
6am - 9am: Weekend Breakfast
9am - 12pm: Weekend Cafe
12pm - 3pm: Weekend Sport
3pm - 6pm: Danny Watson
Saturday nights - best of/pre-recorded segments
Sunday nights - live host/talkback
I would rather see Duncan (or Mark) + Rachel. Right vs left viewpoints. I think on the AM Show Duncan & Mark were a bit too similar.
And Leah is awesome but she could definitely do with a co-host.
Just heard former Radio Sport commentator Nigel Yalden on Magic Talk. He’s the new Mediaworks Sports Editor, Lloyd introduced him as.
Just saw this pop up on my Facebook feed.

Veteran broadcaster Martin Devlin has quit NZME after taking them to court over his employment.
“I just don’t want the pressure and scrutiny that comes with hosting a nationwide radio show at the moment,” the statement said. (So no to possibility of MW sports show instead?)
That’s right, @theGradyConnell. We are awaiting the arrival of MediaWorks’ new talk radio network and its name. Good things always take time.
Would it be worth the inevitable shitstorm for MW from its employees who believe he’s a bully, misogynist, etc etc. Beneath The Glass Ceiling will get back to work calling for him to be fired (again), that hiring him goes against the promised culture change, why hire a man when there are so many better female sports broadcasters, anonymous MW employees DMing BTGC saying they no longer feel safe at work etc etc.
Devlin is a great broadcaster but it wouldn’t surprise me if they steer clear
MW talk brand Drive newsreader will present 7-8pm long-form interview programme / podcast (ZB have SportsTalk with D’Arcy Waldegrave at 7-8)
Via Breakfast/ Daytime/ Drive Newsreader
I note Mary-Jane Tomasi and Richard Baddiley have quietly left over the last few weeks
I’m hearing the station identity and other host announcements will be revealed tomorrow (Thursday) following the Survey 4 results.

Hosking’s on a 34.9% share in Auckland at breakfast. Astounding figures. Next best is 8.2.
Tova has her work cut out for her.
I’ve also heard overnight talkback will be returning and the station will be on FM in all markets, including Auckland and Christchurch. I wonder where the FM frequencies will come from?
