Network Ten post-CBS

Best thing about this tie up is ten is debt free and therefore can make some big plays against 7 and 9.

Those two are laden with copious amounts of debt and therefore are less nimble and aggressive in their strategies.

Excellent post. :+1::+1:

Okay so you figure CBS wants to keep doing TV the way it’s traditionally been done.

I would go:

4pm - 5pm The Project
5pm Family Feud (or a new game show)
5.30pm Bold and the Beautiful (rates well)
6pm Ten News local with greater investment and bigger name hosts
7pm reality - Mastechef/Big Brother etc
7.30/8 onwards usual programming

Ten should never ever let go of news at 5.

I would go:

4pm The Price is Right
4:30 Inside Edition with Deborah Norville
5pm CBS Evening News
5:30 CBS Local Eyewitness Action News
6:30 The Project with Lisa Wilkinson, Chris Bath, Mel Doyle and Natalie Barr
7:30 Regular programming

By the way, yes, that’s a joke.

And a comment on the ‘fantastic’ programming ideas :bulb: cropping up.

5:30: CBS Local Eyewitness Action News, First at 5:30, with Sandra Sully and Hugh Riminton :stuck_out_tongue:

Have I warped back to 2009 and 2010 with all these 6pm news ideas? There really wasn’t any problem at 6pm until 2011 with that disastrous news revolution.

If Ten stupidly go down the 6pm news path again, they need to go big! Poaching Peter Overton for Sydney, Peter Hitchener for Melbourne, Rick and Sue for Perth and whoever’s big in Adelaide and Brisbane. Easy part done. Difficult part is finding a decent lead-in. Create or find a successful million dollar game show format and make it work for 5:30pm. First at Five can remain as is as an Seven/Nine afternoon style bulletin.

If they don’t go all out, it will be another 2011

I agree and disagree here. The problem with the 2011 “revolution” was that they kept changing everything around and not giving their programs enough time to settle in.
ie:

Weekdays
5PM news
6PM with George Negus
6:30 news

then

5PM news
6PM news
6:30 with Negus

and on Weekends:
6PM local bulletin (and this is when Nine and Seven jumped in to the 5PM game when Ten left it)

then
5PM national bulletin
6PM local bulletin

then
5PM national bulletin
6PM national bulletin

then ultimately
5PM bulletin

I think Jane Doyle & John Riddell on Seven are Adelaide’s “big name” newsreaders. In Brisbane? Probably Kay McGrath even though she only presents the weekend news for Seven up there.

Although somehow I doubt Ten would actually poaching all those big name newsreaders, even with CBS money…

@Moe came up with this idea a decade ago

Keep it simple:

5pm - local news
6pm - national news
6:30pm - The Project

…done.

Of course there was. Simpsons and neighbors were a disaster. And guess what there’s no Simpsons now. So forget about all that.

You do understand he news evolution was not promoted properly? And was sabotaged by packer and Murdoch. If it was left where it was for a good 5 years it would’ve been successful and if people didn’t meddle with it it would’ve built and if it was promoted properly it would’ve built up.

You seem to have forgotten the terrible ratings.

Well The Project has had nearly 5 years at 6:30pm and done absolutely nothing. How long do you leave a show there to build an audience?

Lets warp back to this time in 2010

They’d kill for those ratings right now.

How many times do you have to be told that the landscape has changed in seven years and the ratings are nothing like that these days.

Look at the top shows this past Saturday.

The top show is news which has 500,000 less viewers than in 2010.
Another show still on air, Gardening Australia had 670,000 in 2010 but only 330,000 in 2017.

Did the Simpsons/Neighbours do a LOT better than the Project?

Umm…

15 The Simpsons Sat Ep 2 Ten 449,000 126,000 155,000 93,000 38,000 36,000

21 The Simpsons Sat Ten 289,000 87,000 90,000 60,000 28,000 25,000

???

Agreed, it doesn’t make sense to have a game show in the middle of news/a current affair shows. It is better to just go straight into The Project instead of having a 30 minute wait.
