I only watched the first episode of Lunatics, and it really is just not funny at all, swearing for the sake of it, and large body parts just don’t cut it. I may have smirked once in the whole episode. I will give one more a go and see once you get to know the characters if something happens.

I just don’t get what is funny about the ex porn star becoming a hoarder at all.

I got through 13 minutes.

Unfunny, boring, slow and creepy.

I’d say that this will mark the end of Chris Lilley. It is that awful.

I haven’t seen this new offering of his nor plan to, although personally I think Chris Lilley’s creative/popularity peak was Summer Heights High.

Like the general public’s acceptance of dress-up comedy over the past decade or so, the quality of his programs has gone nowhere but downhill since then. Didn’t Maori TV in New Zealand pull Jonah from Tonga off the air a couple of years ago due to its rather crude portrayal of Tongan culture? I also seem to recall Chris Lilley copping a fair bit of criticism on social media for something else, possibly a poorly timed upload of content.

This ? :frowning:

or possibly this :frowning:

And this new show is an original so has gone global too I think.

We Can Be Heroes: Finding The Australian of the Year was brilliant. Angry Boys was gutter television.

Summer Heights High was excellent too. Ja’mie: Private School Girl had some good stuff but started getting patchy. It’s been downhill from there.

Netflix picking up Chris Lilley was a serious error of judgment.

The audience that loved his previous stuff is over it now, and the next generation find it too cringeworthy to have any interest in it.

I don’t think it’s that bad. I bet they’ll still make money from it.

I’ve always found his humor cringeworthy to be honest.

This isn’t as bad as Angry Boys.

The 12 year old male character maybe the most controversial?

I did see just one bad comment on IMDB so far about the lady on the Gold Coast character , saying he was bad for making fun of people with mental illnesses who hoard and calling them lunatics.

Considering how popular his shows are on Netflix there must have been an audience for his show on Netflix and a like for the humour. I haven’t watched the new one but I don’t think Netflix had an error of judgement.

Each to their own, but it does seem to be an improvement on Angry Boys.

I’ve only seen one episode though.

Cape Town South Africa looks very much like the Gold Coast from the car scenes lol.

Notice any baboons walking in the street?

Only kangaroos. That’s what gave it away. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I disagree.

Teenage humor (albeit cringey to the rest of us) is beloved by the modern 12-17yo demo.

That’s why Lilley’s back catalog is so popular with teens in 2019
especially for being able to say stuff/do stuff thathey can’t today.
