Neighbours

I guess it’s because this night is the one that has the least number of people at home watching telly.

Yeah, you’re probably right there. Its either Christmas or New Years Eve as the least watching night for a soapie. Airing a drama on Christmas is still a rarity and relatively new, then NYE is the next best thing for them.

Jason Donovan has ruled himself out of being part of Neighbours’ 35th anniversary celebrations. He told the Sunday Herald Sun:

“That was an incredibly wonderful four years for me and I am incredibly grateful for what that show gave me and still gives me.

“There is not a day of my life goes where I don’t talk about it. If you can get one touch of that in a lifetime you are very lucky.

“But I won’t be making an appearance on the 35th anniversary of that show, I will say that for a fact.”

Which is what he said on Sunday Night two months ago, to Digital Spy one month ago and again now.

There was an additional 1 minute scene and a 30 second message from the cast at the end of the episode.

You can watch the messages here:

Finally caught up with this episode yesterday. Well done to all involved for putting this scene together so quickly and the message at the end.

I saw the new promo last night and to be honest it looks very cheap and tacky. Looks like they’re trying to make the show more like Bold and the Beautiful than Neighbours.

Jodi will move back to Sydney at the end of the year.

Jodi already lives in Sydney. She has been travelling to Melbourne every week for four days of filming.

You mean we have to wait until next year before Elly leaves?? I was hoping the Finn storyline would be linked to her exit.

Na I’d say she’s already finished filming. They don’t normally announce exits unless they have or are about to finish filming.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I think her exit may be linked with one of the 35th anniversary storylines. Apparently there are two storylines, one good and one bad, so I’m tipping his may have something to do with her exit.

In the Digital Spy story it says:

Anasta, who joined in July 2016, will be exiting as Elly Conway later this year in order to pursue other projects and move back to Sydney. The star confirmed that she will be filming her exit storyline “over the coming months”, and promised an exciting end for Elly’s time on Ramsay Street.

So I’d say she’s fulfilling her 4 year contract and will be on screen until July 2020.

Georgie Stone (Mackenzie) has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the trans and gender diverse community in this year’s Australia Day honours list.

Paul Mercurio, who plays Mackenzie’s father Grant, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the arts, especially dance.

Kai Baker, son of Rebekah Elmaloglou, will have a guest role in Neighbours next week as Caden Hutchins.

Kai appears in Friday’s (7February) episode playing Caden one of the participants in the local buddy club.

It is nice to see actress Jane Allsop back on our screens currently in a recurring role playing Lisa Rowsthorn (Hendrix’s mother).

A big Neighbours celebration calls for a double dose of drama.

  • Neighbours celebrates 35 years with an additional five primetime episodes.

  • Double Dose Of Ramsay Street Drama.

  • From Monday, 16 March at 6:30pm and 7:00pm on 10 Peach

Fans of Australia’s longest running drama will get more of what they love when Neighbours celebrates its 35th birthday with more drama than you can poke a stick at.

In celebration of the big birthday, we’re bringing you a week of special anniversary episodes from Monday, 16 March at 6:30pm, plus an additional five explosive episodes at 7:00pm only on 10 Peach. It’s double the episodes and double the drama.

The explosive anniversary week kicks off with Chloe Brennan’s (April Rose Pengilly) genius idea to stage a wedding expo. This evolves into five unique weddings, which reunites couples from different decades on Ramsay Street that didn’t quite make it down the aisle.

We can promise tears, nostalgia, laughs and a splash of drama as five favourites tie the knot.

But, in stark contrast to the romance and love of the weddings, the 7:00pm episodes exude a darker, grittier and drama-filled plot that includes the death of three Erinsborough favourites. Yes, you read that right, three deaths!

The drama of the additional five episodes centres around Elly Conway (Jodi Anasta) being whisked away to Pierce Greyson’s (Tim Robards) remote island glamping resort to celebrate her 35th birthday with a key group of her Ramsay Street friends.

What our holiday makers don’t know is that Finn Kelly’s evil side has been unmasked and he’s hatched his ultimate deadly revenge plan that will deliver severe consequences.

With some of our favourite neighbours on the island and three deaths on the horizon, these are episodes you won’t want to miss.

Neighbours patriarch, Stefan Dennis said: “Who would have thought hey? I remember nearly 35 years ago I said it would last about six months, well who is eating their words now! I’m incredibly proud to be a part of Neighbours reaching this milestone, it’s a fabulous celebration for everyone involved, cast and crew, to mark this moment with an awesome week of episodes planned for our viewers. A touch of nostalgia mixed in with some edge of your seat drama – something for everyone.”

Executive Producer of Neighbours, Jason Herbison said: “We have a reputation for going big with our milestones – and this is our biggest yet. We’re excited to deliver our viewers a double dose of Neighbours which will lead to three deaths and five weddings. There’s warmth and nostalgia as well as high drama and - for the first time ever - we’ll have a week-long narrative taking place separate to the happenings in Erinsborough. Neighbours is 35 years young and we are celebrating with a bang!”
