Neighbours

Nine probably saw it as a subtle twist of the knife towards 10 and Neighbours. I wonder if Robbie already had the shirt or whether someone said, “hey Robbie, put this on”. To me a Neighbours shirt is right up there with the “choose life” shirts from the 1980s

I don’t think it was a conspiracy. He has said he was a fan of Aussie soapies.

Still find it puzzling that 10 / Fremantle won’t make all seasons available, at least in this territory. Prime Video had 2012 onwards, I think 2011 maybe now. And some event episodes from over the decades and some of the earliest. But the golden and peak eras of the 90s and 2000s are nowhere to be seen.

Some accounts have uplaoded them to YT, some have stayed up for a while, but then Fremantle gets them taken down.

Whether its a rights or fee issue or very well could be the music licencing, just get it sorted. Before the show completely fades from peoples minds. No offence, but the large majority are not at all interested in the last 10 seasons, TBH.

I actually think 2008-2011 for example could be perfect to expose globally, even introduce to the USA, given Margot Robbie!

Freemantle are also uploading episodes of The Bill to YouTube, they’re up to series 17 ATM.

Smart move, uploading some of their back catalogue & bringing in some revenue for shows that most likely would never be shown on FTA again, or hidden on an obscure menu on a streaming platform.

UKTV has secured the exclusive rights to the early back catalogue of iconic Australian drama series Neighbours, following a landmark content deal with Fremantle. The agreement comprises 420 30-minute episodes, taking viewers back to the very beginning of the series in 1985 and revisiting the origins of Ramsay Street, where its most iconic characters and relationships were first introduced.

Produced by Fremantle

Neighbours was produced by Grundy Organisation until 2006 when it merged with Crackerjack to form Fremantle Australia.

Honestly you have to wonder why 10 doesn’t do this. They have 40 years of content, yet they run Friends, The Big Bang, NCIS and The Middle on repeat at nauseam

my guess is that it’s cheaper

If only the Local Drama Quota was still a thing… then Neighbours: The Early Years would be a thing.

Im hoping it makes a return.
