Neighbours EP Jason Herbison told Sunday Herald Sun’s Fiona Byrne that the overriding feeling on the set as the end neared was gratitude not grief.
“The last 2 1/2 years has given us 460 more episodes that we thought we wouldn’t have, so we are feeling humbled and grateful”, he said.
"But also, we’re not ending because the show’s not popular, we’re not ending because we don’t have a fan base, we’re ending because of circumstance, and when you have a show that is still beloved and there’s still a fan base, there is every chance that it could come back in the future in some form.
“The ending of the show, this time around, will certainly leave that door very open.”
Herbison promised the finale would have plenty of juicy storylines.
I’m a few weeks behind. Just watching the episode where Tess meets up with Paul. Apparently they don’t know each other? Didn’t she live on the street however long ago it was when Darcy was there? Surely they would have interacted at some point? Anyone able to explain this ?
Kind of kidding himself there - the circumstances surely is that the show isn’t popular enough or has a large enough fanbase for Amazon to continue with it.
In the history of the show, they seemed to always have four teen characters in the cast at any one time.
Looks like she might be a character they are testing out at this stage. She hasn’t been added the the credits as a regular so she may or may not stuck around.
There should be a Neighbours spinoff show Erinsborough or City Hospital.Back in 1989 there was going to be a spinoff staring Geoff Paine as a doctor Clive Gibbons in City Hospital but Channel 10 don’t have enough money and they don’t care about Aussie drama otherwise they would’ve invested in Neighbours 10-15 years ago?
I know some of this is already known here, but this was in the TVT newsletter today:
This week I visited Neighbours for the last time, interviewing EP Jason Herbison.
Neighbours final scenes will film next Friday with the last episode to screen on December 11.
It was a very big day at Nunawading with plenty of faces from the Amazon era in attendance as final scenes were being shot.
There are feelings of deja vu for the team and there is no big network send off as happened in 2022. But there’s a lot of sentimentality and gratitude for the extra years and a fitting storyline to wrap the 'hood. Producer Jason Herbison isn’t looking to top the last farewell, stay tuned for more.
I imagine that they would be willing to find a buyer to continue the series, given the wording of the initial announcement was that the show is being rested, however, it all depends on if someone is willing to pick up the bill.
