Just a few articles from the British media on Ian Smith’s cancer diagnosis and exit from the soap.

One of the articles I saw last night said that his final scenes would be airing around April 2026 which I thought was a little far away and I would have been surprised if they had a whole 12 months plus worth of episodes so that makes a bit more sense as to the timing.

As for the news, I haven’t watched Neighbours much for a while as it’s been hard to but I’m really sad for old Jelly Belly there. A huge loss for the show and for the Australian acting community and sad that it’s had to end like this but I hope he can get a good quality of life for his remaining time and be proud of his achievements. I’d have loved to have seen a reunion with Lou Carpenter in there with him though!

The date tallies up with a scriptwriter who posted info on social media a few months back. The first draft of a script completed 11 October 2024 was for an episode which would be filmed in the weeks starting 2 & 9 December 2023 and screened on 29 May 2025.

I think it’s the report said 2026 instead of 2025 that confused him

I see. Definitely April 2025.

Peter Ford told 6PR today that Smith had agreed to cameras filming him across coming months, and hopefully years.

My guess is that Fremantle Australia (the company that produces Neighbours) will probably produce Ian Smith’s journey. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cameras already started following him from the initial diagnosis to the public announcement. But we’ll have to wait and see.

Tonights episode is starring only Stefan Dennis and Rebekah Elmaloglou. Reminiscent of what the big soaps in the US do.

There was no usual opener and their names were on screen as the episode started.

IIRC The last time they did a two-hander was for the death of Sonia

I watched it tonight, and I actually liked it. Stefan Dennis (Paul) and Rebekah Elmaloglou (Therese) were great.

I wasn’t aware that US Soaps to this type of thing too.

Was one in 2020 between Susan and Finn Kelly (Rob Mills).

But Sonia’s death was the first one.

I’m sure Finn does as well

The British soaps do the two-hander episodes a lot.

I’m not a fan of them. I find them boring.

If they’re done regularly, then id find them boring too.

If done like Neighbours, which looks like its done every couple of years, then its fine. Something different from our end.

Yep. Eastenders does it often.

Shane Isheev has left Neighbours where he worked as script producer.

I get he has passion but fuck he screwed up the revival to the point that some of the storylines have been bold and beautiful style type writing.

Good riddance*
