NBN (The other one)

So what’s the entitlement for $170 a month? That’s like almost triple what I pay for my 4g wireless broadband which is actually amazing and its put me off going over to NBN to be honest after all of the horror stories.

It’s 1000/50. So up to gigabit download speeds which I have been craving for years.

Its more expensive than Aussie Broadband’s offering ($149) but has a few more inclusions.

(It’s clearly not for your every day person. I’m a massive nerd )

Wowsers! Well if you want it, why bloody well not!

It’s more of a case of my dad has a Bigpond email address and it is too much of a hassle for him to give that up / start paying for it separately.

Telstra has unlimited landline calls which is $10 extra with Aussie.

(If I had the choice I would’ve moved to Aussie months ago, but I dont have that power :stuck_out_tongue:)

well as soon as mine , and my fathers telstras contracts were up we changed from telstra to aussie broadband as soon as we could . wouldnt touch telstra with a 2 foot pole and i wouldnt trust them as far as i can kick them lol

and if it wasnt for aussiebroadband telling me to go to the tio over my fttp instalation cockup i would be still waiting till novermber for it

Aussie are light years ahead. Even the fact that you can talk with their staff casually via Whirlpool is pretty awesome.

Thankfully this is a casual plan. If I have problems and I can’t get answers, I’ll be downgrading. But I’m doubtful there should be problems. We have had next to no issues on Cable/HFC for 14 years.

yes well Telstra isn’t the best for not having problems

Well I’ve ascended.

telstra has realsed there 1gb plans but because they got caught out before with people not acheving the speeds they paid for they have said the minum speed is 250mbs and if people get above that then all good and well:D

It’s the same with Aussie. They say their typical evening speed is 250mb as well.

NBN have released their instant quote tool. Still extremely expensive. It came in more expensive through this than when I paid for a quote 3 months ago.

Considering recent announcements that FTTN will inevitably be upgraded, I can’t imagine too many people are going to jump to paying for a head start anymore.

Thought I’d share my experience with getting the NBN installed with Telstra, I’ve heard so much about people getting the NBN installed and it being a painfully long and hard process. I Just had the NBN installed here today (HFC), It was a pretty simple process, the Telstra tech came out and installed the little black Arris box and the smart modem and we’re online, nothing else required!

My download speed is slightly less than it was before on Cable but the upload has shot right up.

Its certainly not too shabby either and only time will tell if I’m happy with it.

My plan should achieve 115mbps Down and 30mbps up according to Telstra Sales.

Surprised Telstra Cable was still active in some parts!

You are lucky you connected now. Earlier in the year the maximum speed was around 94mb down, so the extra download they supplied makes the upgrade from Telstra Cable look a lot better.

If its your thing, you may also be able to get Superfast (250/25) or Ultrafast (1000/50) if HFC in your area supports it.

and don’t get the google nest wifi home mesh router, we were talked into it by a person at jb hi-fi. our router wasn’t able to get the new speeds we were on ( we moved into a house capable of getting fttp 1000/50) we went into jb hi-fi to get a new router and a new wifi extender and wifi adaptor for my pc. we got the adaptor but got talked into the google nest wifi home mesth router. I’m not to sure if it’s because of where the location of the router is to where my pc is but the wifi point didn’t do much . it infact slowd my speed down from the base point in another room. so i had to get rid of wifi point and my speeds is much better then it was before. later next year we are thinking of getting a router and a wifi extender like we orginally tended to

If you’re not happy with it then take it back and try something else…

We had an Orbi mesh network in my mum’s old house (big federation house which was all spread out over a single storey with thick brick walls) and it was fantastic.

Unfortunately I don’t think I can get Superfast or Ultrafast NBN in my area, the fastest that I’ve been told I can get by Telstra is 115mbps down and 30 up. Aussie BB and Superloop’s service checker both says that I’d only get the 100mbps plan.

Telstra did say that they would chuck on a speed-boost for us at no extra cost because we have been loyal customers. So i’ll see how Telstra goes for a while as we’re on a no lock-in contract and hopefully if Superfast or Ultrafast becomes an option I may change provider and try one of those speed tiers.

Oh well :frowning:
You should be able to get Ultrafast by mid next year if NBN go along with their estimated timeline.
