Watched it, not bad, but let’s be honest, it was a glorified ad for the University of Newcastle. As a alumni of this institution, I’d like to question how much funding was used for this, given UoN has had to make cuts in recent years. Also, don’t know if it’s been mentioned here, I think it has, but Nine told UoN to stop the archiving project. Don’t know if it was a funding thing or something else.

Anyway, the segments are restarting in July. Again, I wonder how much UoN got done before being told to stop.

I wonder why would that be? Are the UoN using old NBN footage? Are Nine funding part of the project and decided to stop that as part of cost cutting? I can’t see how this archiving project is any of Nine’s business if not.

Nine own the copyright. UoN are probably doing them a favour as it’s preserving local history, and doing a lot of the archival legwork that Nine can’t/won’t do. Plus they could use it as part of coursework, and I think they were. Nothing wrong with that, that’s protected as part of copyright and educational law. So long as UoN were not commercially selling it without approval.

I can’t recall if it was here or Reddit, but Nine either asked them to stop after a certain point. It smells like Nine cost-cutting.

9NBN are flooding the airwaves with “advertise on 9NBN”, but the problem is, not everyone is in front of a TV now, they could be in the car, in their bedroom, at all sorts of places

But STILL to this day, if you open the 9News app it plays Peter Overton on an iPhone…???

Only those in the know will do the tricks to get it to play NBN News.

Imagine how much is lost in the strength of the NBN branding by playing Sydney news on Newcastle phones..

Unless it’s an issue just with my phone? but I doubt it.

Also the amount of people who would have hit play on the app, not get local news and never every go back to it..

If the people at 9 are reading, why isn’t this fixed?

With the recent announcment of the closure of regional win operated channel 7 stations, i don’t want Newcastle to lose our local service

It really should be fixed.

As long as it’s making money, it’s top rating, and it’s the only game in town, it won’t be axed. I hope.

This sounds like a technical problem. Did you register your local news as Sydney? I think you have to register as Newcastle to get the live feed, as full bulletins are not uploaded.

Your best bet is to get the 9 Newcastle (I feel dirty saying that ) M3U8 feed and play it in a IPTV player.

I think he means this, as unless you watch it live at 6pm, there is no way to watch NBN News on 9Now.

NBN News is safe as far as Newcastle is concerned, other markets, not so much. But maybe they don’t want to sacrifice the ad spots for noodle updates, so just run the Newcastle centric NBN News and cede to Seven at 6pm.

When I had it all set-up, I had my Plex server get the M3U8 stream, and record the stream at 6pm.

But yeah, pretty poor effort.

Until some bright spark realises there’s more money to be made in relaying TCN at 6pm. Or, since they’re running the joint, QTQ at 6pm.

Just to clarify, I’m not talking about watching a recording of NBN news.

I’m talking about when you go to stream the news at 6pm on an iPhone it will play Sydney’s news, then you have to force quit the app and re open it to get NBN News.

Whether the news is available for viewing later as a recoding on is a business decision they have made.

But the fact that it plays Sydney news instead of Newcastle news for this long is pretty bad.

I have my postcode set as 2300 and I have my GPS enabled. It should take a hint from one of those 2 clues….. well it does after restarting the app, every time.

To sum it up, the iPhone app has a glitch on it that hasn’t been fixed since 9NBN was added to 9Now

Gotcha. Yeah, that’s buggy as all get out. I’d be reporting that to Nine, so that they can get their devs to fix that.

Get an IPTV player app, track down the 9 Newcastle M3U8 URL and watch it through that. That would be the only suggestion I could give.

Only thought is if you are running it via a VPN?

The app might then be thinking you’re in Sydney?

I didn’t think NBN News would need a Sydney reporter to tell them what’s going on at the Newcastle Knights?

Also happened earlier in the bulletin when Adam Murray said Chammas had also tipped them off about the possibility of coach O’Brien being paid out.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they had no intelligence - it sounds like the Ponga to Union story may have come from well outside the Knights sphere of influence.

It sounds like it was a co-ordinated drop from someone ‘in the know’ with the intel landing on SMH and DT about the same time.

NBN wouldn’t have journo’s on the inside with influence, they are more in the sphere of reporting that the scuttle.

Plus NBN are more of a cheer squad than anything.

And have been since the very beginning. Sponsoring the club and all that. I suspect certain Nine/NBN execs won’t want to piss off Wests lest they lose certain perks they have at home games.

This is why you need a rival TV news service in Newcastle to give the other side of the issue. Someone who won’t be afraid to lose good seats at a home game to report on the seedier side of the NRL.

The entire media in town get perks at home games so there isn’t going to be any pressure applied locally.
