Is he? Does this country have a recognised body that AMS over in the states?

Then have Tash do it on her own. Works for Pete down the F3. She’s more than capable.

I’m not a fan of Tash .. Jane would be my 1st choice pick for a solo NBN News newsreader.

Jane could work. Both are capable. Methinks Jane might have loftier ambitions though.

Possibly, but if she really wanted to be in Sydney, I think she would have gone by now? Claudia went down there pretty quickly.

Australia has the Australian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society, which would be the closest thing to the AMS. You also wouldn’t get to be a Senior Forecaster for the Weather Channel without being an expert in the field.

Absoluty she is. The question was likely whether they could justify Gav’s salary as just a weather presenter. You get him to present the news and weather and you get more bang for the buck with likely only a small increase in pay.

I’ll swap her. I want out of Sydney, she wants in.

The bottom line here is, they could be doing much better. When you’re the only game in town, and controlled out of town, you don’t have that incentive. So long as (I’m assuming) they’re profitable and doing well in the ratings, nothing will change.

Is he a member of it?

They could have just dropped Paul and left it at that instead of inflecting Gav on double duty. Only pay for two presenters. I’d rather have Mr Blobby reading the news.

I frankly don’t see the point in having our weather presenters accredited or even be meteorologists for the sake of two minutes of screen time (if that), with the vast majority of the info and insights able to be fed to them.

Given they don’t publish a member list, I don’t know.

They could have. But again, how long could they justify Gav’s salary without trying to get more value for it? The reality is that the ROI likely wasn’t there to have Gav just do weather. By having him do both, you keep the two-presenter format (which is likely preferred to share the workload for pre-records) and you also keep the expertise in the weather space. Plus, you save some money, which continues to make the whole bulletin viable.

I would tend to agree. In the early days of hand-drawn weather maps, it would have been more important. Now that people can access weather information at the touch of a button, and most people likely only care about the temperature and whether it will rain, the need for a meteorologist presenting is much reduced.

I’d like to see weather presenters have some level of qualification. I think it adds to the bulletin.

But yes, you can get weather updates in a app. So that point is moot. I’d get rid of Gav if it was all about saving money for that rather basic reason.

Which is a good thing as NBN still runs seven nights a week, the only regional that does it to this day I think, why would you want to jeopardise that by rocking the ship.

On the topic of weather presenters and getting more value. Prior to Gavin Morris and Garry Youngberry, Nat Jefferies used to do weather and local program Today Extra (3 days a week), pre Today Extra it was called This Morning, which was at one point weekday mornings after Today.

Today Extra now is simply Mornings with Kerri Anne rebrand with new hosts

Depends on who you talk to. Someone will always say, there’s more fat to trim.

Our networks are not well run and the people in charge I suspect were dropped as babies.

Just saw the final NBN News update for tonight in which Natasha signed off with"That’s all from the newsroom, goodnight"

But there is still the (network) late bulletin to come at approx 10pm.. why don’t they just say “The Late News is at 10pm” or words to that effect.
