NBN News

All that means is that the presenters have to move around the desk a bit during the bulletin depending on the type of shot being used. Brisbane and Adelaide managed full double headers with a single backdrop plasma for a decade, it’s really not difficult.

It is the old Sydney desk.

No it’s not (as I feel has been discussed several times throughout this thread). The most obvious of the numerous visual differences is the thickness of the white light ring where it sticks out across the front of the desk.

It’s hard to tell because those two caps are from different angles of the desk. The NBN shot looks downward at the desk whereas the Willoughby cap is much more level.

I do however think it is the old Willoughby desk though.

The Willoughby desk and two screens in the front. NBN’s has a light box.

Also, there were photos of the desk without the glass top on it a while back, and the structure is different.

Agreed, they could (and should) shift the presenters around to the “normal” position in wide shots. But, that’s why they’re seated how they’re seated.

I was honestly surprised they ditched this set for the old Nine set at the time. That still looks quite classy and would’ve worked well today if they did some of the changes that you described.

At least it’s more useful than Big Dog seemingly going nocturnal (and going to bed in the daytime).

Sounds like there are some playout issues.

Here’s something new. Lauren Kempe doing weekend weather tonight. Usually it’s just the news anchor (Jane) who does it.

She did a great job too

So… they ger rid of Paul Lobb to save on presenter costs and now they have a separate weather presenter for weekends (but still on not weeknights)? They do some odd things at Nine Newcastle.

Gotta thank QTQ for all that, since Nine already merged management of both SEQ and NNSW markets.

Heaven help us all if we get those QTQ style sensationalist promos and reports!

I would assume Jane doing all the weather and local news windows is a lot of work, so they need to split it up between 2 people

I also assume the the new weather presenter gets paid a lot less than Paul Lobb.

I’m not sure that she’s permanent? Apparently only women worked on NBN News yesterday including producers for some event?

A journalist already on the payroll presenting weather for one night, is hardly comparable to the cost of having a full time news reader. :joy:

of course she’s in the same position? the camera woulda been set up and locked off, and she’d have stood in the same spot for the 1 crosses.

I was assuming it was a new arrangement, it would seem strange to just do it for one night, but there may have a one off reason like what @David posted above…
